I have a '95 Ranger XLT and wanting a tach, I installed a later model gauge cluster which has the tach. It look like most of the gauges work, but there are a few things I'm not sure of.
1.The tach looks to be reading half rpm; the engine seems to top out about 3500 rpm per the tach, but HP output is rated a 4200 rpm. Is there a fix for getting the true rpm reading on the tach?
2. When the door is open the "Fuel Reset" light comes on. I don't know what fuel reset means, but do I need to switch some wires to get the Door Ajar light to come on?
3. The temperature gauge seems to read high - when warmed up it is usually near the top of the gauge. I have not used a thermometer to see what the temp really is, but I'm wandering if it is showing double the actual temp (similar to the tach reading half the actual rpm)?
I don't know the year or trim level of the Ranger (or maybe Explorer?) I got the gauge cluster out of (I pulled it at a U-Pick-It yard) several years ago.
Any help or suggestions would be great. I can live with it as it is, but would like to fix it if possible.

The 1996-2003 Ranger had the same clusters/wiring, 1995 was an oddball year

Here is the 1995 wiring and a 1997 as a sample on later models, quite a few differences

Right off the bat the temp gauge uses a different pin, red/white wire, so not sure what you are seeing but it ain't temp, lol

The tach is a different story, yours should be fine, but not sure on the Ground wires on 1995 vehicle, thats what decided if tach was set up for 4cyl engine or V6 engine
C216 pin 8 needed to be grounded in 1996+ cluster for V6, no ground for 4cyl, 1995 wiring has "starting system" there

All in all I would look for a 1995 cluster with tach, and sell the one you have now
But all the wires you need are there just need to re-pin them for the 1996+ cluster

Thanks Ron, the wiring diagrams will give me something to work with.
