Yeah I've looked at the price tag for a coyote engine and they are double what an ls would cost. But I have always loved the sound and power of a coyote.
So what all would have to be changed to fit an ls and tranny? Is there alot more than changing gauges, computer. And wiring? Would a 5.3 fit with minor addons and brackets?

alot of the spec class racers have been putting the new ford 3.7 v6 paired with a turbo 400. just about the same amount of work as a LS though.
way more power than a 4.0 or 5.0 though. but that engine NEEDS a close ratio turbo 400 trans.
a 5.0 will "bolt in" but to get it to make the SAME amount of power as a STOCK LS will cost you more than just puttin in an LS lol.
yes an LS will fit without firewall modifications if you dont have AC. its small. youll need engine and trans mounts, wiring, management, gauges, exhaust and a new driveline.

Ahhh ok... thought they were the same trans just with heavier gears that could be swapped around. My mistake.

Niether will bolt up. If you use a plate adapter both will work. And both will die horrible deaths.

I'm this application the ls based swap is the most cost effective solution.

By miles.

It's a fukin race car.....with no race in it.

You can turbo the 4.0.....but you still need a real transmission to take the whip.

If you want light....Ecoboost 4 cyl and a 10 speed from the ranger.
Hey, odd time I may disagree with you... So I will go stand in the corner if I'm wrong.

Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but wouldn't 2.3 duratec be the better of the two four banger candidates? Not positive on this, but IIRC the 2.3 duratec ranger engine is forged internals with EFI... Exact same engine as the 2.3EB minus GDI and a turbo...

Would give much cheaper and easier tuning options if the duratec is EFI versus the headache and nightmare of GDI tuning. Unless GDI tuning has become better than it was. Last I looked, it was still shitty, and hit power limitations because of injector sizing and drivers.

Either way, not crazy difficult to push the duratec/eb block/head to the 400 hp range, and TONS of aftermarket support. Hell, ranger duratec engines and trans combos are on Craigslist here for less than $400

Ok. The cyclone is the baddest motherfawker ford has made this century so far since the first one was made. How it remains such a under rated engine baffles me....but I am good with that as it keeps price down.

The scorpion is right there and godzIlla may take the crown.....I am pretty sure godZIlla will be top soon

I am absolutely shocked these cheap sumbeetches are not in everything.

They are complex .... And large physically.... but the power to weight and the use of the 6r80 let alone a 10 speed makes them stellar.

And....much more difficult then an ls.

But I am working on that. The eco boobers are not for the average Joe yet.... but the tech is exploding ..

I absolutely would love to see you do a 3.x cyclone.

The 3.7 does put out 300 hp. That's not bad stock. But what are the difficulties with swapping? They are a good price used and that saves money for rebuilding and addons. Why do you not hear about people swapping cyclones into their builds?

All great and true....for high rpm or drag....

But for flat power....up and down and rocking through technical deep shit....
That is desirable in this application.,.
Not even close.

The Ecoboost is ridiculous. The flatness of power from naught to red can't be done conventionally.

So the same 400 HP engine you build conventionally and I build with a ecowhizzer....you will need much more fuel overall....and way more cooling.

But a stout na engine like a 3.7 is best to me.

Its Big, Real Big. and needs just as much work as a LS.
but, there is a guy in sandiego CA named "juanco" hes been around the offroad racing scene for decades. he builds a stand alone type harness for these engines and sells the computers with his tune ready to be installed in a no frills race truck.

I've always liked the ls platform in a chevy vehicle and always wanted one in a ranger. But I didnt take into account the amount of work.

Well... YOU are....at least more in that type of activity.

I am looking at these more and laying back from the eco boost .

I have to look real close at your rig in person to know how hard it would be to put one of these little fat bastards in there. But I will be basing them on my bronco. Details learned will be shared.
