Yeah... they don't give them away. But they sure do a nice job.

It's gonna be awhile... but I've been eyeballing a set for my Bronco II. I just can't help but look at goodies for it.

Ever thought about a front receiver hitch as a winch mount? You could then transfer it to front or rear as needed or just completely remove it easily if not needed, even have a receiver mount of some sort on your trailer if you ever had the need to winch something on to that.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

That was actually my first thought. I have what I need to make that happen, too, even with a receiver tube to put it on the front of my car trailer to assist with loading inanimate vehicles. But I would have to store it somewhere when not in use. Because leaving it in the front or rear receiver would destroy my horrible approach or departure angles even further. I don't like that idea.

good point, if your spare had a 2x2 center tube welded in that would work but it would be a bit awkward getting it in / out.

Well, that much is almost completely welded up. I also got the winch mounting holes drilled. I didn't even have to do any "precision wallerin" with the drill to make them fit properly. Still have to make a mount for the fairlead, a couple small gussets and some "Pretty pieces" to close up the bumper tubes where I cut into them and maybe a couple other small details.

Looks good, but I hope you are adding some strength back into the bumper since you removed 3/4 or so of the strength between the mounts...

Yup. It'll be fine. The lower bumper tube has a piece of 2" x 3/16" angle welded across the bottom in the back side. It's also completely welded to the 1/4" winch plate all along the back. And the front of the winch plate has a 1" angle welded to the winch plate and the lower bumper tube. The upper bumper tube will be tied in and reinforced also. Running from front to rear, I reinforced my bumper mounts with 1 1/2" angle on each side and 2 pieces of 1"square tubing running between the front and rear 2"angles.

+ about 500lbs of mig wire melted in all over the place. I'm a proud graduate of the Overkill School of Engineering.

Another rainy day in the garage. I better test fit all this on the truck before I get much further.

Fairlead mounts finished.

Hmm. Trim a little bit of fiberglass and I think we'll have a fit.
