If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
i’ve got some thread sealant, if i goo it up real good it should be good i think
I don't think anyone's concerned about the fittings, it's easy for those plastic tubes to chafe through. I used one on my truck and ran the tube inside the conduit with my wiring harness. I also didn't use an Autozone gauge, you'd be better of with the factory oil light at least it would be dependable. If you have the factory magnetic oil pressure gauge, it's not- it looks like a gauge but functions like a light, if it sees pressure the gauge goes up to around 2/3 scale, if it doesn't the gauge drops to zero.

Deengineer until it is how Blue Oval should have sold it!!
Stamina,

There was a day when I wanted to know which thermostat worked best with the 2.9. Starting with 195°, I went down to 160°, 5° at a time and 3 tanks of fuel for each. The 185° resulted in the best fuel economy.

You say reliable, I translate that to ...most likely to not overheat:
1) electric fan
2) remote oil filter with engine oil cooler
3) go through your complete cooling system, stay on top of it and change the coolant annually, at a minimum.

Question !!
Blue Ques..gif

Sorta old thread,
but if you have an AT & installed a 180° t'stat, wouldn't it take a little longer for the tranny to start shifting into 4th (OD)
Blue Ques..gif

I'm thinking this due to the ECTS warming up quicker w/a 192° t'stat.

I've run a 180 in my 98 3.0 for over 20 years. No Problemo whatsoever.

I also run a 170 in my 2004 Ford Lightning. Standard is a 180. Also, for many years. And also, No Problemo!

A lower temp rated thermostat should have no effect on how the transmission shifts. 180° is just the temp it opens up. Your actual engine operating temperature might be different than that. I have a 180° stat in my 302 and it usually sits right around 180 but often in the summer it'll run anywhere between there and 210°.

Well I know the ECTS partly has to do w/the tranny shifting into 4th/OD. I was thinking if the t'stat opened @ 180° vs 192°
it would take a little longer for the cooling system to be warmed up. No ?
Not that it takes a long time to warm up but my A4LD won't shift into 4th/OD when it's cold.
This is normal, correct ?

The trans cooler is in the radiator
With a 180deg t-stat the radiator would warm up sooner because the t-stat opens up sooner
So ATF would warm up sooner, if it wasn't already above 170deg(lower rad temp)

ECT sensor above 140-150degF is when computer goes from Open Loop to Closed loop
So if under 140deg then OD solenoid might be disabled by the computer software, never looked at that before

About 6 yrs ago or so my tranny stopped shifting into OD. Took a look under the hood & found the ECTS connector
had worked its way loose upward & disconnected the ECTS. Pushed it back down & I had OD back. Did get another connector
though (Stupid plastic clip connectors !).

I know what you're saying about the tranny fluid warming up sooner w/a 180° t'stat, but I'm looking @ the ECTS
warming up quicker w/a 192° t'stat ? So maybe for the tranny the ECTS has to be higher than 150°-180° ?

Why would the ECTS warm up quicker with a higher temperature thermostat?

The difference in thermostats has no effect until the engine is mostly warmed up.
