Hello, I was just reading some posts about a bad torque converter. I myself am not positive that it is the cause of my problem but I am running out of things to check/replace :p

My problem is when I am driving my 2003 Ford Ranger XL 2.3l with the 5R44E tranny when it shifts into OD, it has this bog feeling between 45 and 60 mph only. If I am below or above those speeds in OD its perfectly fine. If I take the tranny out of OD it will run perfectly fine at those speeds as well.

I have replaced the following: TPS, Fuel Filter, Plugs and wires, transmission filter & fluid, replaced air filter, and cleaned the MAF.

If you have any insight to this problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

45 mph in over drive with a 4cyl sounds like cruel and unusual punishment. where are your rpms at when you feel like its bogging if below 2500 then you are indeed bogging your motor.

I want to say that they are around 2k but I will find out for sure. Should I just take it out of OD or could it be something else? I do notice that it is worse on hills and sometimes curves, specifically on/off ramps

The engine shouldn't be bogging, the tranny should be downshifting on it's own to avoid that. With my 4 banger and the auto, it'll downshift quite a bit and it never bogs. The5 spd auto tranny we have works best with the 3.0 and 4.0.
