Work Smarter not Harder
After swapping from belt to electric cooling fan, the fan stays on even while the engine is off. I originally had the ignition wire from the kit spliced into the 50A ignition fuse in the engine compartment fuse box. Any suggestions on where to splice the wire on a "Hot in run only" location? ('99 XLT FlexFuel w/air conditioning). The fan kicks on when up to temp and when the a/c is on, it just stays on until the engine cools down and I'd rather not have to wire in a shutoff switch.

First, I installed an eFan on my truck. I do not recommend splicing a high amp draw into any other circuit. Buy a fused circuit add on that attaches to the positive battery post. What fan kit did you buy and where is the fan on/off coolant thermo switch located?

The fan running after the engine shuts off doesn't hurt anything, and can actually help the engine cool down as it sits there. When the OEM's first came out with e-fans, they were wired that way. Do you remember "Caution, fan can start at anytime" written on the fan shrouds?

I have the electric fan on my BII wired directly to the battery. I don't have the A/C working. When I turn the engine off, the fan will run for a minute or so and then cut off, it depends on how hot the engine is and how hot it is outside. Sometimes it will start up a few seconds later and run a shorter amount of time. I have never had any problems with the battery with it doing this.

I bring up the A/C. If you have working A/C in your truck,, you must interlock the e-fan with the A/C compressor, usually with a added relay. The fan must run at all times, no matter the temp of the engine, if the A/C is activated. You must have air flowing through the condenser coil.

You can add a switch connected to the ON side of the ignition through a relay to keep the fan from running when the engine is off. I used a switch with a light indicating it is on so I wouldn't miss that it is turned off completely. I'll try to track down the wiring diagram for you.
