valve tick

my 89 2.9 valve just started ticking and i was just wondering how much longer i have till i am looking at a rebuild and if there are any tips to quiet it down. i heard that if i use an oil aditive it will help

Does it only tick when it's cold, or all of the time?

Does it not tick in the city, but tick badly after a short highway cruise?

Additive might help w/ quieting down the issue, but might cause issues elsewhere where oil clearances are still good..

Make sure you don't have gas or coolant in your oil..

my 2.9 used to tick intermittently. mainly when i ran the engine hard. I installed an oil cooler and haven't heard the noise since. However, this may not work as well on more severe cases.
