What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

My bad. I just took mine apart to refamiliarize myself. Hang on a sec. I'll figure out a procedure.

I appreciate it, and do it if you’re curious, but I’m sure I can figure it out

I'm not sure if this is helpful or not. But I won't charge you for it. Accidentally recorded it in slow-mo and had to do extra editing.

From the videos it looks pretty easy to reach everything without dropping the trans, even getting the pins out since you punch him from the inside out. And I bet it’s even pretty easy to slide the pin in in the space available, but I don’t see how I can apply any force to it to seat it, not much room on the outside, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out. Apparently millions have done it.

Don't force it, just get a bigger hammer. :icon_thumby:

I’ve watched that a couple times already, but I’ve been so turned on by the shorts and the skin and those sandals, it’s hard to focus on the job at hand!

😜

I made a few tools when I was trying to get the cam thing out of the 4.0 that’s buried under the upper intake, and I’m going to sketch up something just for conversation. I’m not really worrying about it until the kit comes in in a few days, and when I tear it apart

I also got the new pumpkin for the rear, the limited slip, and I may tackle that at the same time.

Ok, i’m going to patent these blueprints after I’m sure it works

Basically, I would make a push it out tool that’s offset. The offset would be just enough to clear the top of the hump of the floor and still hit the pin on center. The head of the tool would be curved similar to the inside of the opening, and I would drill a little dimple in it to hold the pin in place while I’m tapping on the far end.

The push it in tool would be a similar concept. The curve of the head would be the opposite, and I would probably drill it and put in a little tiny 6/32 screw with a point on it. I’d take the brand new pin and either center punch it on the cap, or maybe drill a tiny dimple in it, so that when I was pushing it in, it wouldn’t slide off the pin. My vision would be putting a little weight around the arm (pipe coupling & cross bolt), and use it like a slide hammer, but you could also just make one like that push it out tool and tap it from the other side.

The tools would be fabricated with whatever crap steel is laying around, like a piece of bedframe, that just has to be heavy enough so that it wont flex/bend when you’re doing the tapping. I’d make my welds especially ugly, so you wouldn’t notice how crappy the tool steel looks….
