So i was at the junkyard today, i went to pull a head to rebuild while i wait to find a motor, well, this seemed to be the motor i was looking for. It looked ugly on the outside, chewed up wires, blown valve cover but no milkshake and the crank turned beautifully, no weird resistance or clunking noises. Opened the valve cover and it looked amazing. I made a stupid decision, i took the head, put the lower and upper intake back on with the drivers side valve cover and put the passengers side over the exposed pistons, and thought i can come back later for the engine… well, i left coolant in two of the chambers, i kinda really feel like am idiot now. I realized that once i got home and the excitement of pulling a major engine part left me. My next day off is in a week, im going to try to get a day off in two days from now to see if i can still get it. Will this still be salvageable after sitting a day? Or a week? What damage have i done and will it be fixable?

So what did you do?

Coolant in the cylinders won't hurt a thing provided it got in there when you pulled the head.

I was afraid of it rusting or seizing up the rings, i mean, they are getting honed and its getting new rings anyways but i was more afraid of the corrosion on everything. That does ease my nerves though.

Not in a day or two, especially if it is just coolant.

I would expect it to be just as fine as the way you left it.

You can drop the thing in salt water from the ocean for a month, and it shouldn’t hurt anything. You just have to clean it real good before you put it back together.

Coolant has rust preventative in it, so coolant wouldn’t be a problem. It’s general, humidity and condensation and rain, which will contain oxygen, which will cause it to corrode. But it takes months to start in ernest, not days.

I am glad to say i have been blessed with getting off of work early and going to work late tomorrow, i have started the process of yoinking. I checked the oil pan for chunks and couldnt find anything alarming, the rods did have a small bit of side to side movement, i had someone tell me is normal, there is no up and down movement that i could tell. Found the odometer at 206k miles, about 40k less than mine, all that needs to be done now is undoing the torque converter nuts, bell housing bolts, and motor mount bolts. Ill have to say, im learning alot so far about my motor just doing this. Thank you all for helping me out some, i know i was nervous about that coolant but i have learned unless that engine is running coolant from removing the heads isnt anything to fear. Heres my progress so far! I know that cooling system is a little rusty, it comes right off when you wipe it luckily, itl be getting machine work and cleaning to get that thang running as it should!

There are no dumb questions. There are just dumb answers/dumb people. Or something like that…
