92 Pre-Runner Ranger

A SOHC 4.0 with a super is far more complicated than just a v8 swap

I have personally never done any swaps on a ranger im just throwing ideas around about what I have read. Any asking why he would chose to put a Chevy Motor in a ford... lol

To make it fast :P lol I'm not too prejudice as long as its an American company. It's not like I'm swapping in a Toyota hahah but as far as cost to power ratio the Chevy motor is the best option for my particular needs.

Chevy motor also makes a swap more complicated than a 302 swap. Sounds like something an american would do :p

Sent from road while ignoring traffic

BAH! i vote you find a wrecked 2011 5.0 mustang and use that!

better than the 6.0 and your sticking to a ford motor :D

Either way I would have to sort through a mess of wiring harness. Why not sort though one thats only 5 years old rather than 15 or so? I love wiring so it really is the least of my concerns.
BTW "Sent from road while ignoring traffic" made me laugh

Power to cost ratio....6.0 is more power and I've been seeing wrecked GTOs go through auction for under $3k. Wrecked 2011 5.0s have been getting about $7k still. Plus physically, it's a huge engine and would be even harder to pack under the hood.

Trust me, the thought has already crossed my mind. I even found a TOTALED 2012 Boss 302 and they wanted $27k lol good joke. I started out as a Jeep person so I'm used to using Just Everyone Else's Parts :icon_rofl:

Just saying but 5 year old vehicles will likely have a LOT more single computer integration for all the other things like windows, audio, suspension, and on and on that you will have to please the computer about versus 15+ year old (EEC-V mainly for Ford) that is a stand alone engine control and can be dropped in most anything still.

Just makes the "wiring" a LOT easier IMHO - but if cash isn't the option you can always buy a stand alone F.A.S.T. or other stand alone engine management system and run the NEW Ford 5.0 or Chevy or whatever... it just is going to cost from everything I've seen.

Again.. just saying...

I'd love to see a clean 4.6, 5.4, 5.0 or whatever swap that has is documented well on the wiring side with a factory computer.

Definitely some very valid points there. I agree. I'll have to research more about what I can bypass while still keeping the computer happy but I feel it can be done and done cleanly. I plan on having the engine and ECU as a separate system from the body harness. A standalone would be sweet but is well out of my budget.

Doing a whole lot of thinking the last few days. I think I'm gonna keep work a ton all summer and save about $6000 to throw into the truck next winter :icon_welder:

Anyways here's a bunch of new pics.

New Grabbers sitting next to the truck :D too bad I don't have time to mount them before I leave early friday morning.

Tire carrier Lenger built me. I had it off for winter.

Then I tossed around the idea of flipping it around.

I like the look of it pushed forward some. I'm gonna make them sit right about here but mounted with the new bed cage. I spent a while brainstorming and picturing tube layouts in my head so I can build upon it in the future. With how much bed space is taken I don't see a reason to keep the bed anymore. I want to cut out under the tires to let them sit down about 6" farther.

My imagination has a bigger budget than my reality

Oh well, the dunes opened last sunday. I'm going this weekend so expect a ton of action shots :yahoo:

talking about chevy in a ford...

i think its ranger abuse but its a beautiful truck

that sir, is a good lookin truck!

Thanks man I love this thing.

That engine looks like a 5.3 if I'm not mistaken? But damn that's clean under the hood. That's exactly how I want mine to look some day.

We had an awesome weekend in the dunes. Spent most of the time driving so I didn't get too many videos or pics.

Frame didn't handle it as well and cracked on Saturday night so I eased it out of the dunes and just relaxed Sunday before heading home. I just bent it back and welded it up before work today. Another day I'll pull the bed and plate the area. Judging by how it bent, I think limiting straps could have prevented it. Oh well, it's a learning experience and a good excuse to get going on the bed cage. (Ignore the booger welded washer, that was done in the dark :thefinger:)
