92 Pre-Runner Ranger

I understand how the shocks work with the different mounting points. I've read through raceranger's thread for ideas. His truck works and performs very well.

I'm going to go with the 2.0s. They are more than adequate for my needs. The truck gets jumped around town almost every time I drive it and will see the dunes a few days every month. It's not a race truck and I don't think I'd actually see a difference between the 2.0s and the 2.5s.

I drove it up to the shop and took my rear shocks off to check my total travel in the rear to determine what stroke shocks to order. I'm going to go with a 16". That would be ideal. The rear will be worked on during the summer. Next step is to install my hydraulic bump stops I ordered. Those should be here thursday.

Also since I was out I decided to hit some snowbanks in the shop's parking lot. I guess it's not too common for a prerunner to be packed with snow :D

Bump stops won't be here until monday...I'm dying to see them!

Here's a pic my friend sent me...I thought it was kinda cool looking.

And in related news we're taking this Cherokee shell to the guys at Lenger Racing to have it caged and have a fully custom suspension built. It will be my dad's dune toy. He built an aluminum head 383 and a two speed powerglide so it should scoot. I might make it's own thread when it comes back.

Thanks guys. I like the clean look of the front. When I put lights on the truck they will be on the roof rather than the bumper.

So we had an interesting day today to say the least. As we were driving across the state to drop off the cherokee at Lenger Racing we lost a tie down and the jeep rolled off the trailer at about 65mph. Luckily it went to the right (Due the the front right tire being low I think.) rather than left into traffic. Didn't hit or break anything thankfully. It started snowing hard and the cop was cool about it. I assume he had more important things at the moment because he sped off as we were getting it back on the trailer. Kind of scary when it happened, seeing a project careening off the road and potentially being destroyed.

You can see it down in the thick weeds. It went quite a ways down and through some water. It was light and easy to get out.

I'm glad everything turned out OK. In case others are reading this, research how to load and tie down loads properly before heading out on the road. I've been tying down ladders and siding equipment for over 25 years and I'm lucky I never hurt anyone before I learned how to tie a load properly. With vehicles, you must tie to the axles, as then any suspension flex won't loosen or drop the straps/chains. I use four ratchet straps, going from passenger side vehicle to drivers side trailer, and the opposite for the other strap, same for the back. Another way is run a chain over the pumpkin and under the axles, then pull on the front of the vehicle with two straps.
In any case, I hope you don't have another adrenaline rush like that again.

It was strapped properly around the axle but I think the combination of the terrible section of road (The officer and two tow truck divers agreed.) and no shocks at all on the jeep caused it to wiggle loose. The freeway at that section is about three miles of "waves" I guess is the best word to describe them. After we pushed it back up, I strapped it down with the straps crossed to the body and cranked it down real well to compress the suspension and we were good the rest of the trip.

My bumpstops came in yesterday. I put the truck in the garage so the snow could melt off overnight lol I was excited to leave work today and install them.

I kept it simple and just used rectangular steel to weld the cans to the frame.

I can't wait to charge and test them. A local ATV shop wants $60 to charge the pair. I've done some research and I can put together a nitrogen filling kit for $160. That includes tank, regulator, hoses, gauge, and valve. It's only $7 to fill a 30" tall 74 cu. ft. nitrogen tank.

how do you like those tires i want a set for my truck i just dont know how long they last . shes a street queen with those short shocks, sell them buy some 2x14 coil overs and you will totally have a new love for that thing

Those little shocks are giving me 16" at the wheels....and I use all of the travel...hence the need for hydraulic stops :D
I'm going to run a 2.5x14 dual rate remote resi....no sense in upgrading twice, go big to start.

The owner at Lenger Racing loved it when I told them I already bent a rear shock and toasted the front bumpstops. (It was his wife's daily driver before I bought it.) :icon_rofl:

Got my nitrogen setup to charge the bumps. I started at 150 psi and did some testing. I'm not sure how high but it felt like a big one and the landing was to flat ground. The bumps were really smooth and were still about a quarter inch from bottoming out.

Here's my setup. I got the tank from my shops supplier, regulator from grainger, the gauge, yellow hose and NAL coupler came from powertank. Everything works great.
