alright on my buddies 1996 ranger (single cab, short bed, 5 speed, 2.3) the door sticker that says it weighs ~4200 lbs

on my 2003 ranger (single cab, short bed, 5 speed, 2.3) the door sticker says it weighs ~4300 lbs

the LIMA motor in my buddies truck is cast steel (right?) vs. my aluminum duratec.... shouldnt that mean my motor is (probably) lighter???

wheres this ~100 extra pounds on my truck come from??

I just read somewhere that 2003's got thicker glass and more sound deadening materials, don't hold me to it though

idk mines got the plastic floor and the fake leather seats... hes got carpet and nice seats with a center console too...

and i pulled my door panels off like a week ago and theres nothing behind them to 'deaden' the sound, except a thin piece of insulation, that probably weighs 4 ounces

and neither truck has running boards (dunno if mine came with them?) thats the only thing i can think of.....

You're reading the GVWR tag. It's not the curb weight. The curb weight is somewhere between 1,200-1,500# under that.

I make a sad face too every time I think about how many cars are out there that weigh more than the flimsy Ranger.
Oh well, being heavier would just make the gas mileage that much worse....

LOL yeah I'll get a bull bar for the front and 500lbs of sand for the back!

I had my Ranger less than a week when I realized what a disadvantage the light weight can be. I tried to yank a bush out of the ground and all 4 like-new Wranglers just spun and tore up the grass. My dad's '00 Powerstroke pulled it out pretty much at idle on totally bald Firestones in 2wd. YES I KNOW the diesel produces tons more torque at way lower rpm, but I had enough power, I had enough torque, I had 4x4 and only 15K miles on my tire tread. What I didn't have was grip, so that goes to show that the weight made the difference.

Your's is pretty heavy though. 3,600-3,700# I think. The weight goes up fast when you start adding a few things. My B2 is over it's gross weight rating empty--it's 4,200# now and was less than 3,400# new.

These are not flimsy. They have a good heavy frame.

The 98' and newer reg cab's are actually 3" longer then the previous years. Your suspension is also different among other things....
