The motor we had sitting in the engine bay was actually the 3rd 5.3 I had received due to them sending the wrong stuff multiple times. Well, we reached another setback. I pull the top end of the engine off to find that it had sat for a while full of water :pissedoff: This is getting ridiculous. I called and told the owner if he doesn't deliver an engine that fits all of the pre-discussed criteria by friday, then he will be giving me my money back.

Yeah I got a proper and clean 5.3. Money went elsewhere for Christmas so this project slowed down. I'm currently waiting on a trans bell housing so I can bolt the tran to the engine and make mounts. After mounts are made the only hard part left will be building the exhaust.

T56 from a C5 Z06. It's got a wider ratio gear set. I have the trans. I just need an FBody bell housing, tail housing and input shaft.

Because I don't have the capability of tuning a factory ECU to handle the fueling demands of a boosted application. With the standalone, I can tune it directly from my laptop for a lot less money. I can also monitor it closer and make changes to fueling and timing tables as needed rather than having to send it out to be reflashed.

If I were to attempt the swap without the turbo would I need a stand alone system too?

Not necessarily, the factory ecu would just need to be programed to not care about what's missing from the harness like EGR systems or what ever else you remove.

I was originally going to go naturally aspirated with a complete engine and harness setup from these guys. They make an extremely simple harness and ecu setup.
My dad's project started to make more and more HP so I decided on a turbo to level the playing field :icon_rofl:

Do you have any more pics of the motor in the engine bay. It looks like there isn't any room next to the brake booster for the headers.

That's the only pic. The engine is sitting about 8" lower than that and the stock manifolds have a bunch of room. Keep in mind the manifolds will be flipped so they are pointing forward so firewall clearance isn't an issue.

That isn't too bad but it's getting up there. I'd say don't go over 150k on one.

Yeah I kinda forgot about this. I got my trans together and bolted up with a SPEC stage 1 clutch. Next up will be making mounts.
