Its just bored .030, heads were shaved enough to resurface them but other than that the motor is a stock 302 ho
What cam ? The reason I ask, is all this matters. The stock 302 in my Ranger prefers 89 octane fuel. It'll get by on 87 in the winter, but unless it's fed something higher in octane in summer, it'll ping everytime you nail the go pedal. But it's also got the stock F4TE cam. So unless I back the timing down some (which also pulls off some power at the same time) it runs best on 89.

Try running it on midgrade and then tune it accordingly

But I'm not getting any pinging till I advance timing to 25 degrees so at 23 degrees I'm running now I have no pinging so do I need to run mid grade fuel

Keep it at 23 how is the power there. For economy you need to find out the mpg with the different grades but if performance don`t change run the low octane. You can still play with jets, timing, idle air and cams in that order till you get it dialed in.

Once you have the idle air set then adjust the high idle cam speed. When it is cold set the choke spring to close the choke all the way and the vacuum pulloff to open it 1/8 to 1/4 inch. High idle speed pull off and spring tension pretty easy to figure out you just have to tweak it when the engine is cold warming up and power to coil can be used for the choke thermostat or any key on power.

As you can tell I have too much spare time. I got that ffrmm hollycarbs.com. Part # 0-83670 I did the interactive search for your engine slightly modified 6000 rpm max and the 670 came up on it. I would go with strait out of the box jets and nozzles. It also says your carb is more for upper end performance and less cfm`s is recommended for off road lower end performance. Good info tho for the choke the adjustments are the butterfly stops, spring tension and high idle.

My choke is already wired and I adjusted it just 2 weeks ago because it was starting hard once the weather got warm I had to turn the choke so it would close further
