Hearing some interesting rumors around the dealerships about the new Bronco

Ever wonder why Bronco's seem to be getting all the options and engines etc??

What if Bronco isn't just a new truck model.... What if Bronco came out as...A Brand.

Specifically, strategically, to compete model for model with Jeep.

Makes a little more since when you think about it. Bronco, Baby Bronco, Bronco Jr. could all be changed to vehicles BY Bronco.

Big Bronco will probably get a name like "Everest" ( it's NOT being used here in the USA), The Baby Bronco could be called "Mondeo" ( also NOT used in the states) and the Bronco Jr. could be called "Escort" ( not being used at all).

With 3 trim levels like : Lariat (top tier) , Rodeo (mid level), and Sport (lower end)

It worked a while for Toyota, when the made the Scion brand - a completely customizable buying process, making almost all TRD products available for them. It would be cool if FORD did something like this.

Scion was weird, far from custom.

You picked the color, transmission on some and cloth/leather. The rest of the options were like floor mats and mudflaps.

It was a lot more than just stuff. TRD CAI setups, TRD suspension components, way more customizable than the average "Pick a package and Trim" that every other company offered. Nothing was model specific, so there was no "Oh that's only available on the TC and you got the xB, so you can't get that." You could cherry pick almost anything from the TRD catalogue. ( Back in the day, I did my research, and thought about buying a TC)… it just got pricey quick.

We don't even know if Ford can build a Bronco that can compete with the Jeep, and not just be another vehicle lost in a sea of SUV's.

FRS was pretty cookie cutter. Maybe an air filter or something. Even the Rangers meager option list blew it away.

I may get trashed for this, but...
The only real off road vehicle out there that is fairly capable is the Jeep. I've owned hundreds of vehicles in my 70 years, but only one Jeep, the old Jeep Cherokee, back in 1985.
But if I were looking to go off road (not just dirt, but serious off roading) I would get a Jeep, and even then, it would be an older one, 5-10 years old.
In all the reading I've done and seen, the new Bronco if/when it is produced, will likely be nothing more than a 40-50 grand status symbol and grocery getter.
Only other off road vehicles I've seen over the years are modified small pickups, like the Rangers, and the Bronco 2's. Also, lots of modified pickups, short bed Fords/Chevys/Dodges.
Is anyone really going to shell out big bucks for a brand spankin new Bronco and go rock crawling, of mudding, or trail running ? Seriously doubt it...big tires/rims, bumpers, winch, just to go get pizza.
Dosen't really matter if its a "Ford" or a "Bronco" badged vehicle. Only thing Ford could do right would be to build a "bare bones" model with just the necessary govt safety equipment. Knock it out for 20-25 grand,
and they would have a winner.

I kinda doubt they would create a brand. I also hate to keep relating back to my days with a different manufacture... but... GM bought and created a brand to compete... Hummer. It failed on every level, It also helped to bankrupt them as a whole.

I did say in another thread... Let the Ranger compete with the trucks in it's class... that alone is a handful. Have the Bronco compete with Jeep and its derivatives. It just plain makes sense.

I sure hope Ford took lessons learned notes from GM.

Hummer was, from the start, too big, too heavy to compete in that type of market.
The only vehicle that Ford made to compete with the Jeep and Scouts was the original Bronco, and when modified a bit could keep right up with them.
There is now almost nothing made that you can go off roading without some serious mods, although the commercials would have you believe otherwise.
Even a new Jeep Sport which you can get with a bit of haggling, for about 25 grand, is more capable than anything Ford/GM/Ram are putting out now.
If Ford is serious, they need to compete with that,

I'm not gonna totally disagree with you grumpaw... but this Jeep you rave about in stock form... probably isn't all what you make it out to be. The guys that take them off road spend a BUNCH of money to make them worthy.

Where I totally agree... is they need to make a true base model... stripped down to just the necessities and put it in the same price range as the base Jeep.

You got me wrong..I'm not raving about the new Jeep, just that it's probably the most capable for some off roading, from the show room floor than anything else out there, for the money.
Heck, my little Subaru Crosstrek has the same under carriage clearance height as a stock Jeep. And, I've towed it behind our motor home over 45,000 miles, and taken it on many trails, and logging roads without any mods.
It will keep up with a stock Jeep all day long.
I'm not into the off roading bit, but if I were, it would be in an older Jeep Wrangler...wouldn't even consider a new one.

I'll disagree with that wholeheartedly. The Rubicon was the most capable vehicle on the market and was more offroad ready than anything else out there. Sure, it was expensive, but it was a very rugged package.
