Hey all, I need some help with the front brake lines on my '87 Bii 4x4. Went to install the new front hoses Napa sold me, got one of them clipped in on the frame and bolted to the caliper. Went to hold it where it normally sits to make sure the hose was long enough since I've got the knuckles off currently doing ball joints, and it turns out the hose is too short. All 3 of my local auto parts shops all list the incorrect hose for the '87, and it looks like the '86 hoses are the correct ones. Do I exchange the front hoses napa gave me for the '86 ones, or is there something I'm doing wrong here?

Are they giving you 2wd hoses? They have different part numbers.

Also, make sure you do not get the calipers mixed up left to right if you have it all torn to pieces. Rule on any car or truck, the bleeder is to the top. If you get them backwards side to side, the bleeder will be on the bottom.

I just got some for my 2wd 87 bronco ii but haven't checked if there correct length or not. Since it's still in storage at a buddies house.i hope I don't have same issue your having.i got mine at rockauto. But they never said if they were for a 2wd or 4x4. Didn't think that matter in this case

I only have one of the calipers off right now, so I know it is the correct one for that side. The other one is still connected to the truck

This is the style of hose they gave me, it is listed for the '87 4x4. Part numbers 38556 and 38557.

This is the correct hose listed for the '86 4x4, part numbers 38330 and 38331. This is the style of hose I pulled off the truck

Looking at rockauto, there are some listings there that indicate "through 9/86" or "from 10/86". Ford loved to make mid-year changes. You might indeed have a earlier truck that takes the earlier style brake line.

Date on the door tag is 10/86, so I bet it is a earlier '87 that uses the '86 lines.

I found out my Bii is a earlier '87, built in October of '86. It uses the '86 model year front hoses. Yours is likely a '87.5 if it uses the style that napa gave me
