I need some opinions on what everyone recommends for a brand of work boot. Right now i have Red Wings but i have had horrible luck with them. My dad, grandpa, and uncle all have worn them for about 25-30 years. For me, at first i was in mud/water to much and they would basically get rotten. So i quit walking in mud, then one pair that riped on me I brought back to get sewn up and when i got home there was a message on the answering and it said my shoes weren't fixable, then the paused in disbelief and continued to say that the entire foot bed on both shoes has completely collapsed, and every pair i had since then do the same thing in about a year. (roughly 6+ pair) I asked them about some type of warranty but it's only like 6 months. Right now i have 2 shoe inserts on top of each other but it doesn't take to long before my feet start hurting. So basically I'm done with red wings and need a new brand. what brand does everyone recommend i go with? Thanks for any and all suggestions.

i have a pair of wolverines and they are the best boots ive ever owned...so comfortable all day

i've had good luck w/georgia boot.i use the ranch style and have over a year on my second pair.got them at ace hardware.

Well some people in the "know" say the guys who are on there feet all day in workboots should replace them after every 6 months because the support that is built in begins to break down. I worked for a construction company and now pull a wrench, so i have been working on my feet my whole life. I started out with CAT boots, they were utter garbage. I then Went to Terra for a veary long time, but the back of the boot would tear apart long befor the 6 month point. So I then went on to try JB Goodhew, ausomly comfy boot, felt like a pair of heavy runing shoes, but they didnt like being wet and the treat wor off realy fast because it ws so soft. i tried dakota's and hated them. I just recently bought a pair of TERRA Graphite's and they are lighter then my shoes and are veary comfy. Buying a good work boot depends a lot on what you do for "work". If you have the money, i would try the terra graphites, i was realy impressed with mine.

The best boots ive used are danner's, they last a long time if maintained, but a little pricey. Georgia boots are also a good choice. Good luck.

I wear Cat boots... I walk between 10-15 miles a night behind a floor scrubber and then behind a buffer in them. With regular oiling and insole replacement, they are still comfortable after 3 years, although the sole is wearing out finally...I will say this, the rubber soles on pretty much all work boots will not hold up to floor stripper anymore.

Most people I work with prefer gym shoes, but I don't like having wet feet every day, and because I alternate between floor maint and Preventative, I need a steel toe.

I've had rocky hunting boots for years and never had a problem with them but never had a pair of their work boots. I have had decent luck with Carolina work boots. They're pretty comfortable and hold up fairly well.

I love my CAT boots, very absorbing sole that is easy on the feet and very nonslip

I wear Dakota's very good boot i am in mud, dirt grease oil, 6 days a week. (heavy equipment operator) Put a good sealer Like ( dubin or seal grease\oil

warm the boot in an oven or use a hair dryer. rub in the sealer and let dry. do this about every 6 months or so. you can stand in water almost to the top and not get a wet foot. P/s if you do have a problem with a boot DAKOTA will replace the boots free of charge up to 1 year

i have a pair of timberland pros and love them
they broke in over 2 days and are the best i ever had
but non steel toe is much better

plus they were only like 95 bucks

I have a pair of steel toe Doc Martin's boots that I've had for around 4-5 years that I got off the safety shoe vendor. I used them for about 2 years at work (worked at a test lab), every day for 8-9 hours. They were always very comfortable.

I use those almost exclusively when I work on the truck now that they're not needed at work, and other then the leather getting pretty beat on from misc. damages, they're still comfortable.

They were pricy, but you get what you pay for.

thanks for all the replies. I'm hitting ebay, looking up everyone's suggestions and unfortuenly the only one i found in my size so far (have to look up dakota's timberland's and doc martin's yet) are red wings  and they're only $25 +$15 to ship, brand new, less than 24 hours left.

I got two pairs of wolverines, the heavier "goodyear rubber" ones and the lighter "muti-shox"

same boots, but different soles.

the "goodyear rubber" soled boots cracked on me, but a trip to the shoe alteration shop fixed them, also they grip better being rubber, especially on ice.

the "muti-shox" ones don't grip as good on slick surfaces because of the plastic material that is kinda springy when you step.

I take GOOD care of the leathers! wash and wax monthly, and they shine VERY NICE!!

I did the usual, get those patented green insoles and walk with two insoles in each shoe, and after it wears a while I'll throw in a heel gel pad.

The insoles seem to need replacing every year.
I work on a assembly line in a plant.

I have a pair of Carolina's that will definitely buy again next week. I've had them for 3 years and I'm in mud, oil, dirt, everything; I work at the railroad 5-6 days a week. I finally wore the tread down and it is just starting to peel. The steel toes took a few good hits from objects over 500lbs with no real problems. My only complaint was I didn't get ones with a steel shank in the bottom. I wished that I did when I ran a nice size piece of wire though my foot and had to have a co-worker pull it out so I could remove my boot.

I've used Terra's and Dakota's with good success, but the rubber toe's don't seem to be lasting as long as they used to, so now I buy the leather toed ones and get them sprayed with boxliner. My company (weatherford canada, aka precision energy) payes for new boots for me every 6 months, and thats usually as long as they last, maybe 8-9 months tops.
