what's a good brand of work boot

out in the cold ? work boots

hello, i work all kinds of different jobs and have bad feet one got ran over by towmotor on a concrete floor! that one is sorta picky bout foot wear. best i've found so far for outside in the mud guts and glory are irishsetter 1000 grain thinsulate. in the shop working on hard floors ariat no i did not spell wrong ARIAT. a 25yr. shoe sales man turned me on to these they are all he wears and most of his sales staff too. they're better than any shoe/hiker/indoorboot out today. when i'm out tearing barns down or pouring concrete the irishsetters kickass. hope this helps. jsnyder ohio.

deffinatly chippewa boots, ive never worn anything more comfortable than those. I wear work boots every day, a matter of fact i dont even own a pair of sneakers. Im goin on my same pair of chippewas for about a year and a half, and the best part is, chippewa has a rebuild program for 65$ you basiclly get a new set of boots.

PS i know you already bought them but for future refferance buy chippewas

MADE IN THE USA!

i'm still looking for another pair, just some that aren't insulated. My red wing pair had a "boot" inside of them that i didn't realize was there when i bought them (ebay again) and they are just to hot in the summer and it's just an electrical safety boot, not even real insulation, so i need a pair that's not insulated and in a 6 or 8 inches tall. thanks again for the suggestions.

You didn't specify exactly what type of work you do or what environment you are in. I'm in construction and work mostly in dirt or mud outside. Sometimes on concrete. I swear by my (gortex) Redwings, but for some reason you have bad luck with them. I am a fanatic with them though. I'm always using the cream polish and the silicone waterproofing on them. Maybe that's what's kept them from cracking. I've worked in standing water and my feet have always stayed dry (thanks to the gortex).
My daughter works at a horse riding stable and she uses Muck brand boots. They are the "arctic" model good for 40 below temps and are 16" high with insole and toe reinforcement. I've seen some construction guys wear these in deep mud.

i have a pair of rockys but they feel heavy on the feet, somthing about the sole, it seems real hard but they are great in the summer, my feet done sweat in them. i also have a pair of Chippewas that have been sitting in my closet covered in mud. they have never been treated or washed by me and they are still a dam good pair of boots and i only paid 100 for them.

I liked the Wolverine work boots I had, I wore them for 3-4 years. The seams started wearing out on the heel, and the tread is about completely gone, and I went through who knows how many sets of laces, but they're now taking up space as a backup pair.

Last two times I got a new pair I got Texas Steer boots. I'm not impressed. The first pair the insides crumbled to the point where I hated wearing them, and even despite 4 treatments with spray-on waterproofing, as soon as a drop of water would touch 'em, my feet were soaked. This most recent pair the first two things I did before starting to wear them was to put insoles in and liberally work the exterior with Mink Oil for several days. Now a few months later, the insides are showing signs of giving up and tearing up my insoles, but at least my feet are dry. I'm not impressed.

I am very pissed though that I can no longer get the hiking boots I've come to love... I was getting Wolverine Hikers, steel toed, oiled leather, and a rubber "scuff guard" sorta thing. As long as I didn't step in anything deeper than 6", my feet stayed dry, and as soon as you pulled your foot out of the water, it would bead up and run right off. I've put a LOT of miles on the two pairs of those I've had, and the nicest thing about 'em was that if you washed 'em off a lil and rubbed a fresh coat of Mink Oil on 'em, they looked nice enough to be worn out somewhere.

Dakota work boots

I purchased an expensive pair of Dakota Quad Comfort, steel toe, steel shank work boots in October/2011. I work around horses so I wanted a quality, safe work boot. Last night, 15Apr12, I was in the field and stepped into a puddle.
I came out with a soaked foot and looked at the sole detached from the front part of the left boot. Dakota now has a 100 day return policy.
I read in this forum it used to be one year. I called Dakota HQ and was told to take it to a shoemaker for repair at my cost. I spent about $180C of hard earned money to buy a needed piece of equipment that failed me after seven months. They went from a one year warranty to 100 days, that's gotta tell you something about the confidence they have in their product. I see they're made in China.
They've lost my business.

Adidas and Puma are the best brand of work boot.

You revived a four year old thread (and likely joined our forum) to inform us of this? :icon_confused:

Lol since its been bumped my cat work boots have been great to me but getting a little worn on the sole. Any good recommendations? Preferably with added features like waterproof, electric rated or whatever, oil resistant etc.

I like to wear Nike shows. Nike is the best brand for work out boots.

i to have redwings their quality has really dropped off in the year, i was told about carolinas from a friend. he had told me they were like strapping pillows on my feet, i didnt believe him till i went and tried a set on, best boots i have ever tried will never buy another boot. They were comfortable from the start, and i was talking to my uncle the has a pair has ahd them 3 year and still comfortable as the day he first bought them.

I've had the same pair of Redwing 12" steeltoe slip on boots (coyboy boots w/ pointed toe) for 8 years. Best boots I've ever had. Leather's still in great shape. Had to have them resoled last year tho.

Since this thread has been revived.... I guess I should update....

After reading through this thread and looking around I decided to take a chance on the boots from Tractor Supply... got their steel toed 8" tall boots. I was a lil skeptical of the shallow looking tread, but I got two years out of them before the tread wore down to the point of being not so safe in the winter... so I got another pair.

They don't fit me quite perfect, the problem was trying to pull the laces tight enough to secure my foot, so I put two insoles in each boot and the problem was solved (not to mention it's quite the shock absorber now!) For what they cost and what I put a boot through, I figure it's not really worth complaining about.

I also found a dressier looking Wolverine hiker to wear for my not-work-boot footwear nearly a year and a half ago. Comfortable, and it's holding up well, but they used some sort of foamy rubber to cover the seam between the leather upper and the rubber sole.... and I've tore a couple chunks out of the stuff (quite by accident, honest). I've also managed to put a bunch of shallow gashes in the leather on the toes. Again, not much worth complaining about... and with insoles and new socks they did feel like pillows on my feet (kind of a odd feeling really).
