What's a 92 Mustang rolling chassis worth???

Just sayin'.... :thefinger:

Here's another one of these rollers with no engine for $1,500:

WTF?

I was reading a local craigslist ad for a 91 LX hatch that was in good shape and ran for $2,300. I like the guys last line in his ad:

So what the heck? Are fox bodies turning in to gold or something???

No, but you know as well as I do that people have their shit overpriced. Everyone thinks they're sitting on gold. Foxes are easy to come by. You can find perfect running and driving Foxes for 4k. The guy you posted with the SSP roller is clearly on crack. I bet he's had it for sale for a long time too. It's way overpriced. As stated in the beginning of this thread, everything that made it unique and worth more is gone. All you have is a title that might run an extra 100-200 on the price. But there's really nothing special about a roller/gutted SSP.

It's really weird. Some people are pulling top dollar for them around here. They seem to be increasing in value. If I were to sell mine now, I think I could get somewhere around $6500 around here for it right now. Here are some examples of what I see (I check at least twice a week).

This one is an 87 that the owner was asking $15,000 and it was only listed for one day before it was marked as sold.

Here's a roller project with a brand new coil over front suspension and the front is converted to 5 lug - $1000.

But this is something you'd want to find. It has the motor, trans, dash, computer for $1,200.

This one here really caught my eye. It's a 92 LX vert with only 1700 miles for $7500. It has some body work to be done, but way worth the asking price.

EDIT: This is a nice looking GT vert I just found....wow!

I think the fox body cars are increasing in price. They've become old enough now to be "collectable", or so people are perceiving it. I remember the late nineties when you could get a fox body GT for way less than people are asking now for them, in about the same condition.

I think the huge availablilty of 5.0 engine parts has helped, too. You can get a lot of performance out a 5.0 Mustang for not a lot of money, thus making them more desirable. The aftermarket is very mature for 5.0 parts and the cost to buy said parts has become very affordable.

Shhh...don't give away Jim's secret plans.

But, it needs bigger, more aggressive tires. Those 235/75R15 all season tires just aren't cutting it.

You can still find a good running 5.0 GT around here for 4-5 grand. I am not sure how that translates in to rollers.

I bought mine when it was 6 years old for $4200 in 1995. I know I can get at least that for it right now. One other thing I think is playing a factor in prices is, there are a lot of guys who saw these things in high school and wanted one. Now these guys are hitting their late 30's/early 40's and are trying to "live the dream". And yes, I agree with the aftermarket playing a huge role in the popularity. I still think these things are the best bang for the buck anywhere.

EDIT: I was just thinking - I better be able to get at least that out of it, I just put $3500 into it.

I have owned several dozen fox cars, and from my experience , the car you are looking at is not an SSP

The A pillar has no holes for spot lights , the pinstripe is a factory stripe that was not installed on SSP cars... just a few things I see.

Verification with the Buck tag would help to ensure this is as stated

It's definitely an SSP. CHP actually put cheap paint jobs on a bunch of these cars before they sold them and covered the holes. I read a thread on a mustang site where a guy bought one and stripped the paint, and you could see where the holes had been filled in. I know through the VIN and DSO # it was CHP.

Jim the best upgrade to do for a motor is a 96-01 explorer gt40 or gt40p motor depending on the build date in 96 you could get either. and just about anyt5 tranny will work. the best reason for the explorer motor is more hp factory you can easily make 300hp wit a cap and minor bolt ons without going into the motor. theres a sn95 mustang running a competly stock explorer motor doin 11"s

i know doesnt sound righjt im thinkin it has bolt on upgrades

Jim why 5.0 when you can go 351C? just saying

I'm having mixed feelings.

I can get the CHP SSP with none of the SSP parts left, no interior, and minor body damage for $1K - $1,500 close to home...

OR

I can get a solid 86 LX notch with new brakes, dash, carpet, shocks, AC with a non running 3.8 for $800.

If I get the SSP, I'm just buying a true SSP with history.

If I get the solid 86 notch, non SSP, it will be easier to put a carb motor in and not mess with the motor and fuel injection.

If I show it, only I and a true die hard SSP fan will know it's not a SSP. It will be a CHP replica.

Just not sure what to do......

The non-LX is a better deal.
