What to run with air shocks/coilovers


I'll have to do that. So I'm guessing that it's not the springs themselves that push the axle it's wherever they are mounted? Iirc there was someone on here that used yota springs and it moved the axles a little bit.

Let me put it in lamens terms for you. Leaf springs have center bolts that position the axle. If you want the axle forward an inch, mount the hanger forward an inch. Or reverse that if you want it back an inch.

Same goes for link suspensions. The length of the radius arms, position of the coil buckets, and position of your steering box locate the axle. :icon_thumby:

I just went over what I posted.facepalm.what i meant was is there a spring that is more curved on one side to move the axle forward or backwards.or even if it's possible. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Some springs have offset or "off-center" center pins/bolts, which can change the wheelbase depending on the springs orientation when the springs are bolted to the same set of leaf spring mounts.

No, lots of different leafsprings will work for a front SAS application, depends on a lot of variables what you might choose if you go that route. Your axle choice will make a difference too, inboard/outboard depending on the axle spring pad width, etc.

Your truck already has a coil sprung suspension, a Dana 30, narrowed D44 or eb44 would work well, a radius arm setup isnt any harder to set up than leaves and there is more clearance for steering.

Hopefully I don't confuse the OP by saying that the clearance from tires to leaf position also will tell how much steering clearance he will have.

To the OP: where you put the axle on the leaves determines how far forward the axle is on the leaf springs. Also the position of the leafs on the vehicle determines where the axle is. As for steering the distance perpendicular from leaf to leaf on the axle will determine how much clearance the tire has to turn from full lock to full lock. If I had ms paint on my phone I'd draw a pic to help clear this up. Hopefully I haven't confused you.

I'll come up there and check it out one of these days when I have time off from work. I have a question, are there any companies that sell leaves that don't push the axle forward?

Cool I haven't done to much research on them but the ones I have looked at say they will push the axles forward a couple inches.

Where the axle is positioned depends on where and how you hang the springs.
If you plan on running anything larger than 35's you're probably going to want to push the axle forward a little anyway.

Mine's pushed forward 6" and with 37's they still rub the back edge of the fender a little when flexed out.

Not necessarily, you may want an off center center pin. An off center pin would give you a long side and a short side to the spring. If you put the short side on the front of the front axle it would grant you a better approach angle.

Seriously, you need to come down and check my shit out in person. Being able to touch and get a good close look at things should help you understand things a little better.
