Got the 3.0 back from the machine shop, im all stock in the rebuild but im getting a little anxious looking at this wondering if ill run into any issues. I can still feel one little vertical scratch,i saw that one when i first pulled it. the longer ones look like when they honed it they took the stones up right out and scratched the wall a little, those i don't feel. the cam bearings are new but look a bit dinged, cant reach anything back to feel them though. I need a second opinion since this is my first rebuild, a bit of a perfectionist unfortunately, and im giving that up, so if its ok to run i wont touch it.

I would be OK to continue on with assembly of the engine. I've seen way worse than this with no issues, and I've rebuilt more than a few engines in my life. I say you will be good

Don't get it right, just get it running. This is how you do the wrong thing the right way....david freiburger

I know there are some horror stories out there, but I feel like something that simple the machine shop would've said something if it was of any concern.

Ask the machine shop. See what they say.

Sorry to be the bummer of the party.

But if I paid a shop to resurface something for me, I would have inspected it before leaving that shop.
And I would have only paid the bill if I truly felt confident with their work.

So it all comes down to how confident you are with the people you paid to do the job for you.

If you're truly confident with the people you hired to do the job and they gave it back to you looking that way then put it back together.

If you're truly not confident with the people you hired, then you shouldn't have hired him to start with.

Okay, that's my 2 cents.

Hello Naomi,

Talk to the machine shop. This was only a stone hone, next should be the lead ball hone step. Typical of a typical of any pre-bore evaluation. Do you want to buy new rings & pistons and go .030 over? That looks deeper than the simple stone will cut. I would say the next step is to do some lead ball honing at your place with some diesel,& a drill to see if you can fill it up & smooth out the scratch. Example of a ball hone. At 12:15 in the Vid. When that happens, you'll be fine.

I don't like the looks of that cam bearing and the cylinder finish looks rougher than I'd want to see. It also looks like they didn't move the hone up and down fast enough. I've seen worse and it will run if you just assemble it, but I wouldn't.
It's easier and cheaper to do it right than it is to do it over.
