What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Some minor work...

The keen eyed among us will be able to tell what's going on here. I'm just far enough into the process to make it noticeable.

It was a miscellaneous kind of day yesterday. I fixed an on going issue with the fire extinguisher on the front of the passenger's seat in the 2019. The plastic safety pin kept getting knocked off somehow. So, it and it's mount got removed and put in the garage and the one in the garage with a metal safety pin got placed in the truck along with it's mount.

The new to me single burner dual fuel stove got run through it's paces to clean out the system and burn off any residue and build up. It's now not only running, but running like it should.

And the new cast iron griddles to hit with a angle grinder that had a flap disc on it to smooth out the cooking surface (new cast iron is really rough anymore compared to how they used to come when new). They got two layers of seasoning on them last night and the final coat this morning. I had tried using one of them during the trip out to Colorado without doing the above and lets just say that the cooking experience was not as it should be or enjoyable. Everything kept sticking, even with oil being used. Sausages and hot dogs were bad enough. Eggs were a down right disaster.
Most new cast iron is horrible. It makes the Rockie Mountains look level (I can say that now, I’ve seen them). There are a few smaller, quality manufacturers out there that make some really nice, really smooth, REALLY expensive cast iron. That may make for a good kitchen pan, but for camping I’ll take a $20 pan and an hour with a grinder.

What about the half blind old farts like me?

Garage sales, estate sales, antique shops?

I ain’t got time to go picking through other peoples trash at a yard sale. Antique shops are now using EBay to figure out pricing, they aren’t as good as they used to be.

Hey, don’t get touchy! I’m not the one who’s whining because my cast-iron pan from the dinosaur ages isn’t smooth enough! I was just trying to help…

What size are you looking for?

I don’t need another one. I have 8 CI pans ranging from a 3” diameter up to a 15” diameter.

Cast iron pans from the dinosaur ages were usually better quality. They were thicker, heavier, and ground smoother than your typical pan today. Plus 60 million years of using them would have worn them smooth by now.

I took the old 5x8 trailer that was loaded full of junk down to the landfill and emptied it. It wasnt heavy, but was bulky and wide so i had to tie an old tarp over it and use 6 or 7 straps to hold everything from sliding around.

Than came home and fixed a little of the fence around the dog yard.

No just the lift kit I've been collecting parts for since about the same time I put the D35 in. (Axle went in August 11, 2014. Center hinge brackets arrived August 28, 2014.)

I got one more part off today. Rivets are a PITA

extra bed getting prepped for repairs.
it will rotate to the other side up.
in hindsight I should have put the uprights on the inside.
good excuse for more welding.
those funny nuts I was looking for are under the eyebolts on the bottom. had to lengthen 2 of 'em.

this is what 'ol farts do that have been retired for 10 years, had a heart attack 20 years ago, and cancer 5 years ago.
I don't care if anything never gets completed, for me it's the journey.

get outta my way, I ain't done yet.

You put more work in that contraction than I put into all three of my Rangers!

Send the pictures to Harbor freight so we can all have one in six months!
