UrbanRedneckKid's Build Thread

heres an idea that's been used in a number of friends rigs and will be used when I do my axle swaps. please excuse the crude paint sketch:

rearshockidea1.jpg

use a 1.25" or 1.5" piece of tubing with plates at each end spanning the width of the framerails, drill 2 holes for 2 bolts toward the middle of the bar over the pumpkin, sandwich the tube with washers and weld them to the tube to make them studs, use something like this: http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/images/images_big/shock-tab-small-radius.jpg at the axle on top of the tubes & grind to fit the tubes properly for high clearance, or you could use a spring perch like this one: http://www.jegs.com/images/photos/700/710/710-85090.jpg cut it in half, shove a bolt through it & weld it so its a stud then weld it behind the axle and cut it so it clears the shock body if you want more travel. you can do this setup for way cheaper than $85 and it works.

Hmmmm... that would work, except that I just put on a 5" exhaust(muffler-back), and there is no room for the passengers side shock to be angled in like that. Gimme a min I'll go get a pic to show what room I have.

Ok, here's how much room I have to deal with for mounting my shocks.

And for those who wanna know how I fit 5" on my exhaust, It used to have dual 2.5 pipes.

I'll be that sounds....goofy. :icon_confused:

Why can't you just use the stock upper shock location? Did I miss that?

No, it sounds like it did with dual pipes, just a somewhat louder.

If I use the stock upper mounts. The longer shocks I need in order to get all of my down travel, will prematurely bottom out with the up travel. And if I get a shock that won't bottom out with my up travel, it will limit my down travel. Same reason everyone is using the F-250 shock mounts on the front of they're trucks.

I'm thinkin I'm just gonna have to cut out my bed floor, and built higher mounts.

then use f250 mounts where the stock uppers used to be, cut the bed and raise them up for the amount of travel you need. it won't that big of a hole in the bed where you still couldn't use it normally.

Yeah... I could box the frame in a spot about 6-8" long, where the stock mounts were. That would give me something to bolt the F-250 shock mounts to.

But I would have to use the old style mounts with the stud perpendicular to the frame, so that they could be offset from right over the axle.

Over a week and no updates??? come on man, i need to see more!!!! Very nice build!

Well... I didn't get to cash my check last week, and got a bunch of money for my b-day, so come thursday I'll be dumpin quite a bit of money into her.
