so a week a go i bought a new starter and my truck starts and rev's but when i release the key it dead's. so today i try starting it and now it has one strong click from the solenoid. so i charge the battery and still the same. i hope its not the starter because i just bought it new.

Check your connections to the battery and starter.

Sounds to me like you have 2 things going on. A bad starter (or bad connection at the starter) and some screwed up wiring.

Last time I saw a starting problem like what you described I had my wires hooked up backwards at the starter relay and so when you let the key off it would shut off power to everything else.

Ignition switch may be going or gone south . . .

Since you only experienced this after you changed the starter I would say ADSM is on the right track. I have seen people hook up the solenoid wrong many times over the years with the same results you are describing.

As for the one click.... Look for loose or heat corroded connection at the starter positive terminal.

it was the solenoid i hooked it wrong and the starter went bad cause it was faulty so i exchanged it and solenoid broke too so have to buy a new one
