timing question

Does your battery have a full charge very important. How old are the plug wires if you don`t know change them so you do know. To check the coil and ignition module put A plug in the coil wire and set it on a good ground. Crank on it you should get a steady blue spark. To check just the coil turn the ignition on and take a jumper from coil neg to ground quick touches with the plug still in the coil wire you should get a crisp blue spark.
i get a blue spark at the coil and to the dizzy but not out of the dizzy the dizzu is new the plugs are good the wires are good and the coil is good new cap and rotor button and the battery is fully charged only thing i could think of bad spark is igniton timing.

If the spark stops at the dizzy, then there is a problem there...look no further. Check the wires on the dizzy...the ground may be off inside the cap...that's what happened to mine initially, and had it rebuilt.

Timing will not stop the spark if it is at the coil and is getting to the dizzy...

Your truck is Fuel Injected so I'm gonna stop there because there may be a component on the distributor (I've seen them with an electronic gizmo and mine doesn't have one) that is malfunctioning that could affect it...so someone with experience is going to have to add to this for you from here.

i went out today and bought a remote starter switch one of the best things ive done.so now i can test the spark at night without having someone else crank it for me.I am thinking its not getting blue spark at the coil because it looks blue during the day but ill check it tonight to make sure.

I am getting a blue spark at the coil. But from the coil to the distributor am getting a red spark and at the spark plugs am getting a steady red spark.I switched the wire out from the coil to the dizzy and still getiing a red spark to dizzy also changed out the coil and still red to the dizzy but blue at the coil.So what should i check next thanks.

Hmmmmm...what type of plug are you using (and did you say you just replaced them?) and what is the gap set to?

The gap should be 0.44...unless you're using the Bosch +4 or similar plugs that do not require gapping...

autolite platinum set at .44 each

Perhaps low voltage at the coil? I know you said you replaced the coil, but "New" does not always mean "good".

i have nothing to test anything with not a test light, vohms meter.or volt meter whichi should i get?

ok the weirdest thing happened today and made me a little happy.ok so i had my remote starter switch hooked up and i was turning the dizzy a little bit and i had it turned all the way forward so that the ignition module on the dizzy was pointing toward the power steering pump. and i checked the fire and had a red/yellowish spark then i turned the dizzy all the way back and i hit the starter button on the switch to check the spark and it fired right up and smoked a lot of white smoke and didnt idle smooth but i had to turn it right off cause i dont have the radiatior hooked up so am guessing i need to adjust the timing a little bit on the dizzy?

Sounds like you're making progress. I'd say hook up the rad, fill with coolant, put all the plug wires back on, and fire it up. Tune from there. You may need to adjust the dizzy 1 tooth to get the timing set exactly, but at least you have made it make some noise.....

yea i wasent even expecting her to start up she hasent ran in almost a year now.but i was happy when i heard her start up and cough the white smoke out

Did you check the resistance on the plug wires. How do you know they are good if you dont know how old they are just change them and eliminate a variable. Are you sure you have the correct cap and rotor. Something is not adding up if your getting good spark out the coil it should be at the plugs there is not much there wires cap and rotor. Are you getting spark at the coil by putting a plug in the coil wire set it on ground and crank on it with the starter.

I bet your coil wire is high resistance but for now you will need a timing light maybe get a cheap one at a pawn shop or part store you could try craigs list also your gonna want the timing right to tune the carb. You may get lucky by ear but not likely you want 10 degrees base timing or you will just be fighting it.

aaaaaaahhhhh...that's what I said a while back...mine did the same thing...would not start til I rotated it...sounds like you're almost there...I PM'd you about the search but didn't do it when I checked this forum...

Let us know what happens after you get the rad hooked up...

yes thats what am doing and i get a red spark by doing that but if i keep the coil wire connected at the dizzy and disconect it at the coil i get a blue spark at the coil thats the only place am getting a blue spark everywhere else is red spark.
