The Deuce

theyd have to been have been cut. at least from showed up on google krawlers dont look much different then the new mud terrains. plus the side wall lugs on that exploder are HUGE in comparison

Here's the bfg kx re-groove tires, http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/assets/pdf/krawler_grooving_instructions.pdf

I don't think the ones in my pic are the KX.

Those huge ass side lugs are the shiz, no idea what they are but these tires look gnarly to say the least. I googled them for a couple hours the one day and came up short, I even tried looking up machinery tires, agricultural tires and stuff with no luck.

Well, new engine is in and runs great! What a PITA. The whole time I'm doing the swap I'm regretting it not being a v8 swap, a shit load of effort and time and still NO V8 dammit!!! GRRR! Probably the dumbest swap I've done yet. Swap a push rod 4.0L for a sohc 4.0L. At least it runs good, no leaks, no weird sounds, she's quiet and clean and has v6 power again.

Had a few hang-ups along the way. Turns out Ford changed the harness plugs and pinouts between 92-93, yeah that was fun. Between staring at the schematic for a couple hours and harness and plug pinout and wire colors I'm done with that shit again for a while. Figured out only some of the 94's sensors would work and some of the 92's sensors would work for my new set-up. I ended up pulling the upper intake off and installing my 92 engine harness on the 94 engine. Mix-matched sensors and now she runs like a champ!!

I do however now have a useless 94 cam position sensor on the back of the intake and a 92 non-cam position sensor harness, a non-functioning '94 egr system on a 92 non-egr harness and an extra O2 sensor in the mix, lol, but she runs good and has thrown no more CEL's.

Another cool deal was that the Explorer has the exact same drive shaft regardless of auto or manual trans. I now have a spare rear drive shaft from the front of that Sploder.

The 4.0L clutch and pressure plate sure have a lot more pressure, lol, the pedals harder to push for sure.

Still need to swap that little black box for the wipers to hopefully have intermittent and return to bottom of windshield and swap in that resistor for the heater fan to use high speed and swap on my 135 amp alt in place of the tired 90 amp stocker. All this can be done later, I just want to go play.....NOW!!!!!

We're heading out for a test run in the morning, I'll try and get pics up shortly after the fact.

Surgery date Wednesday May 25 10:45am........ :(

Then I'll be down for the count for a few months after they hack my shoulder open and fix it. So tmro will be my last wheeling for at least 3-4 months.

I NEED A NEW CAMERA, MINE NO LONGER TAKES PICTURES!

so you did all this work... and are going wheeling... and not even supplying us pics??

hope your surgery goes great and recovery is painless and quick man. gotta get you back in that b2 asap!

that's a awesome tire...

I know all that work and no pics deserves a good smack up side the head at the very least, lol. I'm workin on getting some pics off a buddy, he took during the swap.

I WILL get pics from todays test rip tho, maybe vid too if I'm lucky.

Slo-vo, that sure looks like the tire from afar, I wonder if we could import them into North America for cheap enough to be worth it?

LOL, thanks, I needed that smack!!! :D

Ok so I have been stoned out of my tree (very medicated) for the last week and a half and will kuntinue to be for the next while, shoulder surgery went good according to the doc, but man is it sore as hell.

For sum reason my photobucket account isn't finishing up loading all my pics, it's just sitting there saying upload in progress, for the last 15 minutes, weird cause normally its quick. Might have to log out and try again. No worries people, pics are on the way today.

Let me know if this link works on here please, it's a short vid from the test run..

Was the test run after engine swap and some frame and suspension work. Didn't realize at the time that I held it to the rev limiter for so long, haha.

After looking at the pics on PB, I think I just put them on here in reverse order, lol, oh well, I tried, haha.

ENJOY!!

glad to see its still kickin!!

That lj on the boggers is sick! Dad still wants one like tyat bu he wants the two stroke version..

Yeah my buddy Gord owns the LJ on boggers, has the 700ish cc 4 cyl, I think ??, it's the smallest 4cyl they used anyways, his tach goes to 7500rpm and he burries the tach needle for extended periods when attacking mud holes or hill climbs, he figures it's reving 8000-9000rpms, sounds like a 4 stroke motorcycle tached out, lol..... no rev limiter either, lol. It's a neat rig but gutless as hell, he has dual cases and uses only double low on the trail. Those 33 boggers are way too much tire for it. He's ramping up for the VW diesel swap. He's welded rear and open front and manual steering that takes all his might to steer unless he's moving along, then it's just tough. haha. After watching him wheel it I have decided it's waaaay to much work to wheel that thing. lol.

Well after the swap I ended up using a different power steering pump and I can still steer it one handed with front locked and parked in the dirt, pavement, mud, what have you on 7psi in the 38's. So that's cool anyways, still no need for hydro assist. Funny I drove away with the front locked again on pavement, it steers easy enough but sure wants to plow around corners, lol. Took a few corners for me to realise the front was in, haha, I was like, "why is it not cornering tightly", then I was like, "Duh, I'm dumb", lol. Wasn't bad enough for me to stop and unlock the hub tho.

So there she sits, ready to play as soon as I am. Feels good having it wheelable again.

She needs some work still as they always will, seems my 3 trip old brand new rubber panhard bushing at the diff is able to bottom out the panhard side to side, allowing the diff to move side to side when I steer it. Also my 4degree polly C bushings are getting toasted and have allowed my diff to rotate (pinion down as it sits and axle wrap) far enough to give my coils a weird curve to them and it's lost some ride height because of this. I really want to redo those rad arms and eliminate those lousy bushings and replace them with Johnny Joints. Oh well, time to start saving for joints I guess, I'll hopefully have all the parts ready for when I'm ready to start fabbing again.

Cops are going nuts around here pulling over any lifted rig they see, same thing every late spring, so for that I'm glad I'm not out driving it for now.

Yea that lj sounds like my samurai steering wise... But not for long :D

and we thought about the vw swap but decided it was too much weight for the amount of power you get out of it.

Hope you get back out on the trail sooner then later. Sucks about the cops though...
