Hello,

I am really new here, so sorry if there is already a thread for this question.

I currently have a 2004 ranger, I used to have a 1997 ranger. I personally loved the old steering wheel I had, but my current truck has the updated one.

Would it be possible to go to a junkyard, snag an older model steering wheel and just "plug and play" replace it? Or would I have to change some other things around?

Thanks!

I'm just guessing here, but here goes..... Both steering wheels should have an airbag. Cruise Control on both model years is on the steering wheel. The horn on both steering wheels is on the steering wheel (Unless the wheel comes from an '83(?) Ford, that the horn, for some dumb reason, was (wasn't it on the signal light switch? Pull it towards you to honk the horn, push away to turn on high beams?)

The major variables will be the clock spring, and center bolt/hole. If those are the same on both trucks, I would guess that you'd be OK.

I've heard of putting old mustang steering wheels in different vehicles, so I don't see it being a huge deal.

The steering wheel itself will probably bolt up, but the wiring to any of the cruise switches may be different between the two. Also, the airbags changed as well, so that will probably be a snag as well as your new airbag will not fit with the old steering wheel and the old airbag will probably be incompatible with the trucks SRS system.
