Hello all,

Work continues on fixing up my 2003 FX4 Level 2. One of the projects is to remove the rust and paint the A-pillars. In addition, try to figure out why the A-pillars are rusting in the same spot. Did anyone else experienced this problem? Is this a common trouble spot on Rangers? I'll let the forum know what I discover when doing the repair, but checking if anybody has some advice before starting this project.

Thanks,
Tom

That’s not a common area. You had a water leak either around the windshield, at the rain gutters, or somewhere else at the roofline. Does the truck have a visor or cab clearance lights?

Hi Snoranger,

Thank you for the reply. No the truck does not have a visor or any cab clearance lights.
I suspect the same (water accumulating in the A-pillars). I'm going to run a snake through the pillar to check if there is any blockage.

if you pop the column trim off it exposes lots of factory holes. if they hold water I would speculate there may be some sound deadening foam in there.

I have seen where a replacement windshield was not installed correctly causing issues with the windshield. Not getting the glue all the way around was my experience.

Seems common to me lol. I don't think it has anything to do with the windshield. It's more just poor corrosion protection and design by Ford. Poke at it, get a little handheld sandblaster, and start getting to it. Hopefully it's not too far gone.
