Rear Disc Brake Junkyard Upgrade, EASY TO DO

Was about to start a thread on this when I saw it already made. My biggest problem is finding the backing plates for gt/v6 axles, the stock 10 inch setup. I cant find them anywhere, all I can find are the kits with the 11.65 cobra kit upgrade. I can piece the rest together. Going to be putting this on my 7.5 axle and if it lets go then a ranger 8.8.

If anybody knows where I can get the backing plates Im looking for let me know!!!!!

Go to a junkyard and buy used ones. Really, they aren't that hard to find; the issue is that they rarely need replacing, as they are cast iron. If put together right, they won't let go as long as they are put on right, and properly tightened. I've had mine since last year, and haven't had any problems yet. Only thing I'd change is to put Expo e-brake cables on, as I've found the stock Ranger cables are too long.

As for the JY trip, you'll find the stock calipers bolted to the anchor plates on the axle housing. Once you get them, you'll have to cut them to bolt them to the stock Ranger axle.

Question is, do you have a Pick-N-Pull JY in your area, or a JY where they'll let you pull parts? If they do, and have the GT/V6 'Stang setup, or better yet, a whole car, you shouldn't have a problem locating the anchor plates.

Both JY i go to you can go look and pull stuff yourself but one has older vehicles and they are updating and the other their supply changes daily. I want to get the backing plate already off since i don't want to have to take an axle almost apart just to get to the plates.

Found a few things on Ebay thanks to some help of a buddy. But all help is welcome in my search. My truck is still a budget build.

I know North Race Cars makes a bracket that is a direct fit for the 7.5 and 8.8 in our trucks (Its really for Fox body 'Stangs, but they use Ranger axles and SN95 brakes for the swap). Its about $150 for the set. There's no cutting and installing the bracket on the backside of the flange.

I was also told that a Lincoln town car brakes will work too but I'm nut sure on the exacts on it.

$150 seems a bit much, found what i need for less then half that but not getting them yet, seeing if i can find then fot a better price.

But do you have a link to the ones that bolt onto a ranger, want to make sure they are the gt/v6 ones and not the cobra size backing plates.

I dont know about the Towncar, but I do know that the 7th gen Continental (82-87 or 88?) had an 8.8, 5lug, disc brakes. The axles and brakes from my 83 Conti swapped right into a Fox body 8.8 rear.

Here's the North brackets:

Wonder if they are spring over or under perches or are they coiled in the rear...think they are. I was told that their brakes can swap right onto a rangers.

I believe, after my sister's fiancee having a Continental, that the Towncar had coilovers, and the Continental had an Air-Ride system. The reason being is that Ford thought that the Air-Ride was a "more luxurious item."

However, the suspension setup doesn't matter for the brakes, as long as the rotors/calipers still mount up correctly; as Ford makes both Ford and Lincoln, I'd say that the Townscar and Conti brakes should both work. I would check clearances/measurements/tolerances before installation, however.
