Im getting ready to order a new carb for my 84 2.8 and was just wondering what exactly to get. I dont know if i should go with a stock replacement carb(from a 77 mustang II) or the holley 2300 350cfm. I wan't to with whatever is going to work best for my engine. My 2.8 is stock with addition of removing the cat and adding a spintech 2.5" exhaust. Let me know guys. I just don't want to have too much carb for this engine.

Thanks
Josh

I'm thinking that is almost TWICE too much carb for a 2.8.. If you can find a nice clean STOCK carb you'd prolly be in better shape putting it on there instead of GUESSING about what might work.
Big JIm:rolleyes:

Stock feedback carbs are barely worth their weight in scrapmetal.

Holley 350's are a touch too big but can be jetted down to work fine. For an aftermarket carb they don't come much smaller so you are kind of limited.

My personal choice would be the Motorcraft 2150 off of a Mustang II like you thought.

Some people have used the original carb with a metering block modification; I just tried to find it but couldn't. I'll try later, but the point is that it will work with a cheap modification.

Well, I ended up ordering the holley 2300 350cfm from summit. I also ordered everything needed to do the duraspark swap from autozone. I'll let you guys know how everything works out once i get it all installed...Thanks for the replys

The nice thing about the Holley is that adjusting parts are readily available. The bad part is that you CANNOT expect it to work perfectly by bolting it on. I here people say "Holleys are junk!" all the time, that is because they don't have the ability to adjust them properly. By adjusting I don't mean just turning a couple screws. Jets, bleeds, power valves, boosters, squirters, pumps and more all have to be fit to the motor.
The best advice I can give is, Get a book or two on holley carbs and start reading.
Many people buy carbs and run them out of the box, This will cause an early terminal failure!!! Even the Mustang 2.8 carb would need a little tweeking.

all i can say is good luck lol just got my holley 350 on brand new an i expected it to atleast fire up with just a little bit of tuning but not the case it tries real hard to fire an almost does but no dice guess im gonna start out with jets #57s im gonna start with an see what happens

See holley jet sizing program on the link.I run #63 jets, push the pedal down, let it up,tap the key and my truck fires up every time.

that says i think i should use a 63 or 64 but dont seem right when it even tries to take off its wide open throttle tryin to start carbs brand new out of box not to sure wat to chang
