quick question about holley 350

I have a 2.8 carb adapter(EGR plate),the factory spacer, and a 500 holley in my hand. I can't see any mismatch in the gasket. My 500 has a vacuum port under the float bowl that would provide a nasty leak. It also has an extra pcv port at the back.

yea the one on the front is plugged up an the holley 350 only has two vacuum ports. startin to think intake manifold gasket? theres a vacuum leak somewhere i just know it! but i had my valves done a while back an that would include intake manifold gasket would it not? so it should still be alright

ok so i dont think i have a vacuum leak because i got my engine to operating temp. just sittin there idling at about 1200 rpm and i opened and closed my manaul choke with my hand under the hood and if you have a vacuum leak and you close the choke it should raise the idle right? like it says in the vacuum tech pages on here? well mine tried to die when the choke was closed then opened it up an went back to idling?

Buy, rent or borrow a vacuum guage. 18 hg is your goal.

got the new jets in no change though. hooked up vacuum gauge an its a steady 14-15 an i looked at the animated gauges on the tech pages an like the open throttle thats what it does normal motor. it runs fine just my throttle response sucks! and it kinda goes up an down in rpm slightly an how do you time the 2.8? it has the two dashes on the pulley an the little arrow off the motor but no numbers or anything do you just line up the pully dashes with the arrow on the motor?

Well guys, I got everything installed friday afternoon. I must say, it took a lot less time than i thought it would to get everything changed out. Took my dad and i about 4hrs to take off the old carb, dizzy, install new dizzy, carb, ignition module, coil, wiring, and get it running. The swap ended up being a lot easier than expected. My carb is running great out of the box with no adjustments to it. Looking forward to seeing what my gas mileage is going to be at now. With the old feedback carb i was getting about 18-21mpg city/hwy. The only small issue we had was gettin the carb to idle down after letting off the gas, but after a few adjustment to my throttle linkage and after installing a return spring, everything is working just fine. Once i get all the old wiring out of the engine bay i'll try and get some pics up for you guys. The truck is running sooo smooth now, I love it:icon_hornsup:

how did you end up getting it to idle down good! iv been fighting that for a while! but i think its my power valve in the carb cause i have kinda low vacuum

I ended up adding an additional spring to the linkage to help pull the throttle back. Make sure your throttle cable is straight too, if not it will probably want to bind

well i got it to be somewhat decent i fiddled around with it for awhile an screwed with the timing an its gonna be ok but i took it out for a test drive an when you hit the brakes to stop it dies! ah dang another problem

Yeah,mine did that too.sucks to pull up to a light and boom,just dies.Check your plugs,if white-too lean,bigger jets.Check the idle mixture too.

well i just got it to where it will idle about 1100 or so an the throttle response isnt all that terrible, just pulled out of the driveway down to the stopsign an dead, figured it was a fluke so kept goin an did it twice more, ill check my plugs

Every time I change the jets i adjust the idle to 800 rpm, warm the engine, then set the vacuum to highest reading by adjusting drivers
side richness screw, then the passenger side.I have 18" when done.

I am running #63 jets currently with #65,57,58,59 and 61 on the bench.
I am going to be testing and tuning tommorow to see if the accelerator
pump is set up right. It takes time to set these bad boys up.

pulled my drivers side plugs an there not white an not fouled there just kinda gray/tan? they look ok to me

Thats the way they are supposed to look,so leave the jets alone.
