quick question about holley 350

well i was hopin to correct my throttle that way i barely tough the pedal an it shoots to 2300 an comes down real slow an its idling high i got the mixture almost all the way in an the idle all the way down an still idles high. real slow throttle response on the way down like maybe to much fuel?

Yeah, something is wrong.Doesn't sound like jets though, still I would open it up and pull one just to see where you are starting from.Might be be some monsters in there.

You may have a blown power vavle?I believe it is a #85.The rule for power vales is half of your vacuum reading at idle,-.5.So 18" devided by 2 is 9,-.5 gives you 8.5 or #85.Good news is jets are like $6 a set and power valves are $8.

yeah ima go pull one an see what it is. yea thats why i ordered the 58's cause they were cheap so what the heck might as well. power valve shouldnt be blown carbs brand new?

Ok,you bought it new in the box it should have #61 jets and a #85 power valve.Your problem is most likely something else.

its go #61 jets in it and the power valve i couldnt figure out how to get it out, couldnt look at it long gotta go to work :pissedoff:

yeah maybe my throttle linkage? i didnt have the right little ball the one it comes with is huge i got em on order so maybe thats it? right now the throttle cable is hooked to the carb by being hooked on a bolt lol

When I tried a Motorcraft 2100 off of a 289 on mine it did the same thing, I was really hoping you would get a response so I could use it... it had a lot more power but all around acted goofy.

I put the stock carb back on and the slow return to idle went alway... I dunno if you need to play with your jets or what but it is something with the carb.

Have someone else work the throttle and watch to see if the throttle lever is closing slowly. I've had to add an extra spring to the holleys, especially if they have been sitting around.
If it is not that, it sounds more like a vacuum leak than a rich condition.
Also, I've seen the mounting kit (balls and detent studs) in just about evey parts store I've been in. It shouldn't be a problem to get the right one.

yea its not running rich at all. an the linkage doesnt go back slow you can move it back fast with yur hand but throttle response is the same? all the vacuum lines off manifold tree are pluged those are the only ones i know of pcv lines are taken care of too. not to sure what it is, any other ideas?

I would say that it is probably the base gasket. Something isn't matching up right. There are twenty different base gaskets that use the same pattern, ONE of them will work.
Do you have a spacer between the carb and intake? It could be either one. Are you using the factory intake?

How are your intake manifold gaskets? That actually go between the intake manifold and the cylinder heads?

Might have to get some carb cleaner and spray around with the engine idling and see if the RPM changes.

I am afraid that may be what is giving mine fits. I was hoping somebody would post some easy little trick with the carb or something though.

yeah its the factory intake, with factory spacer because i couldnt get just the base gasket? the carb/spacer and spacer/manifold gaskets are like glued to the spacer even on the new factory spacer i bought? skippy had used the stock 2150 gasket and spacer an his works fine?

Did you pull the adapter off the top of the intake for any reason?

Also, there is a vacuum port on the front of the adapter that needs to be plugged.
