Power Steering Assist Failure

There is module programming. Time to do some research on how to do it with forscan.

There isn't much out there but what is out there is that if the firmware in the rack is the same as the old rack, reloading As Built will work, if you do get a code. If the firmware is different, the only option is to go to a garage with the Ford software and have them reprogram it.

There was nothing mentioned about driveability issues on the Forscan forums or Ranger 5G. So, I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there. I'm going to need to get the alignment checked anyway. If I have to go to a Ford garage to get the rack programmed, I might as well have them check the alignment while I'm there.

Im getting a used rack so hopefully the programing will be the same. So hopefully i can just download my as built program and be good. I couldn't access the module reset without a license. I was planning on an alignment afterwards anyways so hopefully I can find a shop that can do both when I take it. My closest Ford dealer is almost an hour away that would do the service. We have one about 30 mins north in KY but I've heard horror stories from there.

It depends on how you use the KY.

Well the new rack is supposed to be here Monday. So today is in the 70s° outside and Monday's high is supposed to be 40°. This inspired me to get to work on removing the rack and getting ready for the new one Monday. I first locked the steering wheel in place straightwith the seat belt.

Then I took the bolt out of the steering shaft closest to the rack. Then the tie rods loose and removed the bolts.

Now I cant get it out past the front diff. So I soaked it down with some penitrating oil and will try again later. I will have more updates as it goes along.

Oh I forgot to mention you have 2 electrical clips you have to undo. A CanBus one and a power cable. Both have little red locks on them. Be careful not to pull the little locks all the way out. They dont go back in. Trust me haha
