pitman arm troubles

My pitman arm as a PITA also. Bent two pullers. Finally my instructor at school found an old GM puller that was like a solid cylindrical cast piece with a square cut through the top so that the pitman arm could slide through it. We cut mine in half and slide that on there. Finally with that tight on the arm and some beating with a hammer it popped a few times and came off. We tried heating it also, but you have to be careful because you will ruin that seal as stated. He also suggested, if the puller didnt work, taking a cut off wheel and putting a relief cut in the arm, cutting it not straight towards the shaft, but at an angled aproach to the shaft. this would open it some to where hopefully a puller could get it off. again, PITA.
