Pesky Vacuum Leak

OK, I'm just curious, but I don't think I have one of these (EGR tube) on either my '86 B2 or '90 Ranger...is that right? Certainly got no tube running from intake manifold to anything anywhere on the exhaust..just the wire to the O2 sensor.

I jb welded the hell out of it and it all got roasted off.. lol but i do think i have a clogged exhaust. it ran a shit load better when i disconnected the EGR tube and let the exhaust run threw i. put it back on and it ran like a bag of shit again.. plus there is ALOT of ehaust coming out of it.

it shouldnt have burned off, if u got JBWELD brand now some off brand stuff, ive used it to put oxygen sensors into stripped holes on a manifold, make sure to clean the hell out of where ur puttin it on, and then do it, let it cure for atleast 24+ hours before even running the truck, preferable before a weekend where u can let the truck sit until monday mornin, and do it on a friday night

also, ALOT of exhaust is common out of a egr tube, u gotta consider, a exhaust system will always take the path of less resistance, so if it can leak out on the manifold it will, but its in no way good for the truck

The hole i had to cut

After taking all that shit out of them (there was 2 lil fuckers) and welded them up she ran like a beast.. i think it runs even better without them plus i saved myself 200 bucks by doing it myself :)

HOLY SHIT, how did ur cats melt up like that, thats unreal, those fuckers had to be CHERRY red for a while

I thought I would just point this out:

WARNING: Federal law makes it illegal for ANYONE to tamper with, disconnect, remove or otherwise render inoperative ANY emissions-related control device. The Environmental Protection Agency and most states have actually been rather lax about enforcing this rule on motorists, but they haven’t hesitated to nail professional service facilities that have been guilty of tampering. Even so, the fines can be hefty. A violation may make you liable for up to a $2,500 fine!

Now I have nothing against hollowing out your cat, but when you do it you should do it a little discreet. You prettymuch posted step-by-step pictures (evidence) of the whole process and instead of taking the thing off and punching it out on the bench you cut a big hole in it and welded it back together. I don't know if your area has emissions inspections, but if they do and you ever take it for one and get questioned about it DO NOT admit to doing it. As far as you're concerned the truck could have been like that before you bought it. Not trying to be a dick or anything, just pointing it out. On another note do you still have what was left of the catalyst when you hollowed it out? I know alot of scrap places in my area are paying for that stuff even if it's not in the casing anymore.

yep, there actually paying MORE for it if they dont have to melt them down to seperate the metals, i know i usually get 50 for car cats, and about 80-100 for truck cats

I live in Canada.. We dont get our cars inspected or air care what ever its called where i live so im not to worried about anything.. already threw the stuff away i didnt know i could get money for them.. i had two!!

Probably melted from running too rich because of the broken EGR system. :)

Pete

wouldnt surprise me at all, thats why i keep sayin fix the EGR pipe LOL

Wouldn't be too hard to atleast pull a spark plug and take a look at it. With gas prices the way they are i'd be really concerned about running too rich just because of the money lost in gas alone.

i would run a pipe atleast to get the air filter out of right infront of the rad like it is.....cause one knows that cant be helpin anything, a hot air intake
