Orange 1977 Pinto

Today I removed, cleaned, and replaced the other signal light housing. It looked pretty grungy across from my new to me drivers side signal. Looks good but the color isn't quite the same. Maybe uv damage...
And I tested some semi-sealed halogen light bulbs that I picked up cheap from Toyota dealer. Up here I paid $50, but I heard in US prices around $20-25. This is for 2 glass halogen bulb and housing, and include fuses and relay wiring kit. It's been talked about for quite awhile so may not be available anymore. I bought mine last year, 2 sets. I have an old Grumman box van that could use better lighting.

You've got them aimed wrong. They're supposed to flip over and point inward so you can do engine maintenance at night.

Yesterday I installed the semi sealed halogen bulbs and relayed kit. Routing the wiring wasn't too bad but the rust I see makes me sad. I'll deal with that after I figure out the wiring problem I found behind the dash that has something to do with the headlights. Maybe it's damaged wiring from the fire that happened to the wiring in the engine compartment. Or maybe a previous owner did some less than ideal wiring in aftermarket lights on the bumper.

You make my heart go pitter pat with that thing. I bought a ‘74 pinto squire wagon, remember those things with the wood grain sides, for $400 when I needed some cheap transportation for a short while. That was in the early 80s. It had a stick and air-conditioning, so I ended up keeping it for a lot longer than I planned. I remember I had a flat on a long trip, and I was afraid of driving without a spare after I changed it, and I bought a brand new tire mounted and balanced for $19.

It’s one of those cars I’d probably still have today if I had the room, but like I’ve said about several things I’ve owned, a guy around the corner just had to have it and he had the cash, and I took the profit.

The Wondrous Eh-sploding Pinto--in the iconic "Orange Creamsicle" color scheme! (IIRC Ford also had a cool looking lime-green, at least for some model-years...)

I'd forgotten how much of the Maverick front styling they cloned onto the poor Pinto.

PS: what are those twin (lighting?) brackets on the top surface of the front bumper?... was this thing an off-road deer-poaching jack-lighting terrrrrror-machine?

WHY don't "they" ever give us the concept car in final production???... what da Pinto was teased to be at various industry pre-launch/BS events in 1970:

It's like, I dunno, mini-Torino meets AMC mini-AMX???... KILLER WHEELS too!

PPS: totally forgot about the Mercury Bobcat version of the "platform"... went over like a lead balloon, as buyers were NOT going to Lincoln-Mercury dealers looking for econo-compacts, were they? Esp. if there was a Mercury Cougar Convertible or DeTomaso Pantera(!) on the turntable, under the spotlights! Schwiiing!

Yes, I much prefer the rear styling of the prototype. Just a smoother line. But maybe too hard to do a hatch?
