Im looking to re-do the crap system in my 87 reg cab Ranger and I'd like to see if Im getting the most bang out of my shrinking buck.

Im not looking to go epic here, just new dash speakers, head unit and 6x9s in back of the seats. Ive found some items that Im interested in and if anyone has anything for input Id appreciate it.

6x9s

in my opinion, there is no way that second pair of 4" speakers can handle 60w rms lol... especially not for less than 50 bucks for the both of them! maybe they can, i have no clue... but i would have to guess no.

can u fit 5.25" in the dash?

Well Ive read posts from people here that say 5.25 will fit with some effort, but Im not sure. Im just checking them out till I can dig into the dash.

Ive never even heard of those Absolute speakers till now. LOL Probably just junk-o stuff.

alot of people will say to stay away from sony xplod anything. My only experience with it is my headunit which i have no complaints about, but its something you might want to look into

yup, id steer clear of the sony and absolute. You might want to consider putting better 4"s up front and cheapo rear speakers just for fill.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I had great luck with my xplod system that was in my 2001 ZX2. I would just use that head but the flip down front doesnt seem to make constant contact anymore so you have push it in slightly with your finger. That head is probably 6 years old by now, and it got used a ton. I do want to stay away from the flip down fronts from now on though.

Im still not decided on much of the parts so far, but I think I will go with the Xplod 6x9s.

How long has Absolute been around anyway? (not the vodka LOL)

no offense but other than head units sony is garbage, and has been for a while. im not sure what youd be paying for them but if your getting them from crutchfield you can do so much better for the same price.

i got a absolute audio capacitor way back in high school and it worked for literally 2 mins, then the display lit up all 88.8's and never turned on again. Pretty disapointing since it was brand new from online car stereo. This was a while ago so im not sure how they are now and i dont care to find out.

I just used the Crutchfield site to get ideas. I was also looking at these Pioneers, but they are a little more money. Im sure someone carries them cheaper though.

The sony speakers have a few good reviews so im not gonna say good or bad because I have no personal experience with them. but there are so many speakers on crutchfield for less money that people would probably recommend pioneer, pioneer premier, rf, kicker, kenwood, alpine, etc. why not look at some of those for less money?

a good example. good reviews, decent brand, less than $100. Try not to limit yourself to one brand you've used before but the final decison comes down to you so if you are really set on the sonys its your choice.

Thanks for the replies and info guys. Much appreciated.

Actually I was looking at Kenwood and Clarion heads, but never checked out the 6x9s. There seems to be so many options out there compared to the last time I bought stereo equipment many years ago. (usually I bought Pioneer and Im a greybeard LOL)

After checking them out though I think Im going to target the Kenwood 4ways since I can get them pretty reasonable. ($56 shipped) That, and the Kenwoods have a mesh grille. (Im sure I will throw stuff behind the seat not thinking)

Hows the Pioneer DEH-1100MP head unit? Its a $100 Wally World special, but it looked decent. Anybody have any luck with them?

bondo, if you want a cheap system, here ya go

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/prod...03322-module203326-rLink2&product_id=12531485

its def. not the best. but, ive bought these every year, and they work fine. the headunit is nice. the speakers are decent, but its sony, so there not the best.

cut holes in you doorpanels for the 6 1/2's and put the 6x9's behind your seats, and your truck will sound good.

put the door speakers towards the front, under the window crank handle. theres plenty of room there.

dont laugh everyone, im buying this setup for my car, because im broke, and would rather save for the ranger, than put a system in a 300 dollar car.

wally world is a good place to get cheep pioneer HU, never had an issue with one of them. but thats all wally world has to offer, but every one is at a different place in life, so something is better then nothing, and at least with sony, they have been around enuff, to have ok customer service
