Opinions and suggestions wanted

Ok, more to check out. LOL

The KDC-MP342U is one I was seriously considering Dave, I dont like the flip down face so I wouldnt get the KDC-MP738U.

I like those dash speakers though.

im describing fine as someone just wanting better music in there truck.

no this will not do it for an audiophile, but its a step in the right direction.

i know thats why i "x2" you,

only he knows were he stands between, money is no option or the cheepsest thing,

just trying to put it all in perspective, some times we talk about, and give advice and forget that not everyone is addictive to it. like some of us are.

i kno from my experience(using 6x8s then switching to round) that the round dont distort as easy and just have overall better sound quality. andi believe in amping speakers regardless if you ahve a substage or not. but if your gonna have a substage you NEED to amp the speakers (personally i have 1k wrms substage and 210wrms of mids/highs and its pretty well balanced.

no you wound need a digital cross over, that can handle 5 channels.

Ok, so Im back at this upgrade after numerous budget killing setbacks. (Xmas, computer fried, wife wanted a new pool, birthdays, wifes car repairs, chainsaw rebuild, etc) Finally Im at the point now where I can pick up where I left off in getting new pieces to make my system.

To re-define what Im looking for in my system,

- A new head unit. Im looking for a unit that has respectable RMS that does not have a flip down face. I dont need any ipod or bluetooth hook-ups, all I want is good CD playing capability. One thing is red lighting is a personal negative to me. (dont like red at all)

The one that I like the best so far,

- 4 inch dash speakers. The stock ones gave up sounding anywhere close to decent many moons ago obviously. I would like to get the most out of what I buy here, because they will be the closest to my ears. Ive debated on modifying 5.25s to fit, and have them sit on top of the dash without using the stock speaker grille panels but that is just a thought.

Ive looked into a ton of 4 inch speakers, and found these to be of interest.

- 6x9s I will be fabbing up a box for these to mount at a slight angle in behind my 60/40 seat. No biggie. I would like to get some decent bass out of these, and have a clear sound while doing so. Im not fond of midrange, so I will EQ the mid down quite a bit for the whole system.

Some that look ok to me,

(probably wont get pushed enough, but I like the freq range and sens)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0139923200&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT
(again probably wont be able to push enough)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290433209153&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
(I may just go with these due to cheapness)

Anyway, if I could get some opinions (again) to this whole ordeal it would be much appreciated.

just FYI.

dont use kenwoods if you want bass. there great speakers pretty good mid but suck when it comes to bass. they would be great as part of a larger system.

for any real bass your going to need an amp. sorry

aftermarket speakers generally lose the bass end of things. putting them in a box will help. but still no stand alone HU will have the guts to push a 150w 6X9.

not to nock you. i want to tell you whats really going to happen.

just to let you have something to think on. when people ask for a new system, that could pass for top of the line stock. i replace the fronts; (4'' will be fine for you ) then get a amp, and thing 50-100 pwer channel is good (all about the money) and run three channel mode. 100wx2 to the rears (6.5thur 6x9) let them have the guts to fill in the mid bass. then any6.5'' in small cars or trucks to 8''s in biger stuff. and i get rav reviews on this.

the 6.5'' kicker could fit in a 6x9 box....... need .2cf and they just made a mini 10 box that can fit behind any bench seat is even a bit much to some tastes.

just to ponder on man.

but your 18-22wrms HU wont give you bass response your gonna need boxed or not its just not there. when you hear the lil bump in cars on factory systems they have little bass tube and "crappy" special speakers to do that. and there made to lose the highs and do more bass for an "all around sound"

Dont know about paying $50 more for that Clarion head unit over the Sony GT340, with red lighted buttons to boot. I really like the Sony to be honest and its dirt cheap.

Also, arent the Phoenix Gold 6x9s I listed (V690) better suited RMS than the RSD690? I wont be pushing more than 22 RMS with any unit I get, so those RSDs wont even get worked at 80 RMS would they?

Okay 4x4, Im aware that the head unit isnt going to push much, thats why Im trying to find some 6x9s that are rated a little lower. Theres not much for quality stuff in those parameters that can be had cheap though. I do have in my possession a couple low output amps that I could use I guess, but if I can get by without them it would suit me fine. If I have to I could hook them up.

As for the bass issue, I had a Sony CDX FW700 in my 2001 ZX2 Escort pushing 5x7s on the back deck lid and it was really nice sounding. No amp, and the bass was good once some EQ tweeking took place. I would think in my little 87 single cab I can find enough bass to keep me happy once I start playing around with it.

the rsd series is the only series worth a crap from phoenix gold.

i would just cruse wally world or pep boys. any poineer, sony, LA, duel ect will fit your budget.

also try call any car installers and see if they have stock speakers they have pulled out of cars. you might get them for free. and as long as there not blown :dunno: we just chuck it, or get mad scientist with it. and try and catch things on fire.

So Phoenix Gold is probably not an option. Any opinion on MTX?

The Wally World near me doesnt carry much of a variety, Ive looked 1,327 times...

I would go with 5x7s if they came with grilles I guess, but alot dont. Why are they more expensive than 6x9s anyway?

Is MA Audio considered junk?
