- A properly suspensioned Ranger can be safely airborne for up to 4 seconds at a time! =:O
I seek the definitive 411 on Explorer's various AWD cases, and their "bolt-ability" onto Rangers.
I've heard on some earlier years of 'sploders, the xfer cases are identical to those on the Ranger. In later years, along came one or more versions allowing full-time (dry pavement) AWD... but supposedly they didn't have 4LO... then I found a write-up on the "clean sheet" 2006 Explorer, and it talks about "Control Trac", and says it DOES have selectable 4LO, in addition to AWD... hmmm...
Then I think I read somewhere else about "Direct Trac"???
Help me separate marketing BS from engineering reality. Also, how do I I.D. these different transfer cases?
Extra thanks if you tie these various xfer cases to FoMoCo's marketing tags, i.e. "Control Trac", etc.
PS: Can you believe the Exploder is no longer available with any MANUAL trans? That's so ghey... FoMoCo has totally abandoned the Bronco-II crowd... the dumbing-down of America continues.
