Well after freaking out and getting over the shock of learning that my trucks frame is completely shot. I am considering the frame replacement. So what are my frame options? What year Ranger frames are compatible? Where is the best place to look for another truck frame? I live in CA in the 91710 area so the u pulls are not near me. I would like to find a good frame that is already powder coated possibly, Or i will have to maybe get the frame powder coated if that is even a thing. Do people powder coat there frames? I just kinda made that up in my head, i don't know if that is even a thing to do. Are there any frame modifications that i should consider? I am not a mechanic, I am paying a shop to do the work. So as someone has already said i am at a severe disadvantage when it comes to getting this done. I was told that this will cost 5500$ and up. So i will have to save some money for a few months. I don't have the money currently to go out and get another frame at this current time. I spent about 11000 $ on this truck already. So im in to save it. Unless someone offers to buy the truck from me witch i don't think that's going to happen.

Here are the choices for 2001. I see you have a 2wd supercab, but do you have coil or torsion bar front suspension?

electric (EV), postal vehicle
gasoline, 4x2, Regular Cab, 6' box, coil spring suspension
gasoline, 4x2, Regular Cab, 6' box, torsion bar suspension
gasoline, 4x2, Regular Cab, 7' box
gasoline, 4x2, Super Cab, coil spring suspension
gasoline, 4x2, Super Cab, torsion bar suspension
gasoline, 4x4, Regular Cab, 6' box
gasoline, 4x4, Regular Cab, 7' box
gasoline, 4x4, Super Cab

Coil springs 4.0HD but they were put in, There not original, I don't know what the truck had originally The motor was 3.0 originally
My box is flareside or stepside so i think its 6ft

There was someone else earlier in Ca looking for rangers in the northern part of the state, and there is not much up there. But I told them 5 hrs south there is this place in Montclair that has quite a few rangers. I see that is not very far from you. I picked a coil spring suspension and this came up.

I will check it out the price is so low it makes me nervous. I thought frames were 3000$ or something
My truck has the extended cab with the doors that open up so its 4 doors would that be supercab then

Wow frames are cheap, I am really wondering now if 5500$ is reasonable to replace the frame or can i beat that by alot. I am also wondering now about frame alloy. Are some frames better than others or are they all the same. There all steel frames correct? Or Are there better frames than others? Is there a different year ranger that has a better frame that i could use? Or are they all the same? How much money is it to ship a frame? Are there custom chassis out there? Is a chassis and a frame the same thing? I asked art morrison who i probably can't afford if they could make me a custom frame but yeah right lol

They are all the same. They are really pretty flimsy when you take the body off of them. When you buy a aftermarket trailer hitch that is made out of 1/4" steel, and you are bolting it to the stock frame that is just like thick sheetmetal, you have to ask yourself how it all works. But it does.

When they stamp out the frame rails, it makes them stronger. Every hole they punch in the frame makes the metal stronger also. It work hardens the metal. Like a coat hanger, if you bend it back and forth many times, the coat hanger will break in two because the metal gets hard from bending it. That is why you have to be careful when welding on the frame, the heat from the welding process can bring the metal back to being soft from where the factory bent it and stamped the holes.

Like I stated in one of your other threads, it looks like you might only need to do the back half of the frame if all the damage is behind the cab.

The shop that was going to do it for me doesn't do half frame replacement only full frame replacement. There is a bad bend in the frame as well. The wouldn't bother unbending it. There is also rust damage. They said the frame is diamond bent.

If i go some were else i could maybe do the back half but there isn't much of the way of places to go near me that does frame repair.

Since i am saving my money i thought about having a custom chassis made but its probably 2 expensive for me. A frame and a chassis are the same thing correct cause i hear chassis and frame being interchanged.

I'm thinking $5,500 is cheap.

2 guys working on it full time and getting it done in 40 hours, 80 man hours, that's only $68.75 an hour. and that 40 hours/ 1 week is a guess.

Im curious why is your original frame shot?

2 things usually kill them...rust and collisions, being in cali i think we can rule out the rust

I recently bought the truck private party for 6500$ not knowing there was frame damage. They didn't tell me there was frame damage. They didn't know about the frame damage i guess. But i suspected it so I took the truck to a have the frame measured and they discovered that the frame is bent like a diamond and it has been cut and welded 2 short. It also has some rust damage. I only have had the truck about 2 months...

Its a v8 swapped ranger ca legal

I already put about 5000$ into the truck so i have spent about 11,000 so far.

I considered cutting my loses and moving on to another truck but then thought well maybe the truck is worth saving. I also thought about selling the truck back to the previous owner and just getting my money back but then i lose out on 5000$.

The Previous owner offered to fix it but i don't think he can fix the frame, I was already told the frame needs to be replaced not fixed. I mean you could unbend it but its still cut and welded 2 short and then there is the rust damage as well.

I guess you could cut and cage the whole thing but then the truck would be completely different. But i don't think that is the way to go. I don't think the truck would be safe.

The woman at the frame shop told me i wouldn't drive that truck or let my family drive in that truck.

Wondering what to look for in a frame? Besides the obvious not bent and not rusted, not cracked etc.... On car parts.com they have frames for sale but they show the entire truck not the frame. I really need someone to go with me to look at frames who knows what they are looking at. I don't have anyone who is knowledgeable on frames who i can trust to help me. I could have the shop help me out but i don't know to what extend they would help me. The frames are graded A-C It seems but that is generated by a system or software they use called checkmate. Don't know how accurate it is.
