Modern trucks....when is enough...enough?

I usually have some project going on the Ranger so no matter what it would get the garage anyway.

This year will be an M5OD and D35 swap. :yahoo:

I could probably get my F-150 in the barn now, just got the lot cleaned up last night.
I'm lucky in that aspect. House garage is for parking cars. Shop is for projects.

A two car attached garage, a 20x40 shop and a machine shed are all on the wish list.

To put this train back on the tracks:

If I had a dime for every time I wished my VIN was laser etched on the console armrest... :icon_rofl:

Trying to be like an aircraft that has the registration number on the instrument panel for quick reference when talking to ATC or what?

Nah, its so that when someone steals your truck but leaves the center console lid you can prove it's your truck.

The big F350 etc rigged out with all the bling is more of a fashion accessory than a truck. :D

More power just means more expensive shit to break when they're trying to show off for their friends. I'll take an older truck without all the electronic shit that will fail and go do the same work the new trucks can but I'll still be working while their trucks are in the shop for failures. The new truck may hit 100mph faster but it'll also be in the scrap yard a hell of a lot sooner than my old truck...I am not working at the race track I don't care what your 0-idiot time is, I want to get the job done without breaking shit.

I have a warranty.

And having owned every ford diesel from the 6.9 on, the older trucks aren't even close to being on this level.

Yards used to be full of first gens, now I am lucky to find one.

Not because they are great (well they are :D) and nobody junks them. They are becoming an endangered species because so many have been junked in the last 30+ years.

Which is why I have updated most of my stuff to be using 3rd gen parts in the power train, and I have been stock-piling body and interior parts as I come across them.

Mine is kind of a little bit of a mixed bag of a powertrain.

A dash of Explorer, a pinch of third gen, a tad '04 F-150, a heavy chunk 1970's truck and scoop of some misc 1980's car... :stirthepot:

Interior and body stuff still sucks to track down. I finally found a nice set of arm rests that were not white or broken. I still haven't found a nice box or a truck to harvest cab corners from yet. :annoyed:

I do have a good stash of mediocre armrests. I stash what I can find because in a few years I think stuff is going to be hard to come by.

Warrenties expire.

Wait till your DPF system fails and you have to pay outta pocket. Youll be wishing for a 6.9 then.

The old trucks will do anything 90% of people will ever need. But obviously nowadays everyone thinks you need a 900ftlbs+ to tow 4000lbs. Cause damn the speed limit.

I just noticed a crack on my dash the other day, which 10 years ago was the nicest one I had come across in a while. It's probably been there for a few months now, since if you sit in the driver's seat it is hidden by the steering wheel.

I'll probably opt for one of LMC's carpet covers instead of a replacement pad.

I need a good set of the white clips the door armrests screw into. I have a set somewhere, I just can't find them, and I don't want to pull all of my cabinets apart right now because I have the guts of a BOP 400 taking up the top of my tool box.

I'd have too own out of warranty...

My dump trailer is 14k fully loaded. My car trailer is almost 10k fully loaded...

I have never heard of anyone wishing for a 6.9...
