Missing Fuel Inertia Switch

Hello! Recent owner of a 2005 Ranger Edge. Was diagnosing some issues starting (turned out to be a blown fuse for the fuel pump) and in the process of diagnosing found that the previous owner has fully removed the fuel inertia switch. Where it should be is just simply wired together with no switch to cut it off.

This checks out with some of the previous owner's mods and usage of the vehicle, but considering I'll be using it as more of a light farm/town truck than a 4x4 off-road, I'd like to add the relay back in.

Anyone have any resources on reconnecting the fuel inertia switch? Most resources I've found so far have a quick attachment for the wires to replace the switch, and don't deal with rewiring entirely.

Thanks!!

I'd see if I could harvest an inertia switch at a junkyard, along with the connector with as much wire length as you can manage. Let them know up front that you're mainly after the connector, so that they don't freak out when you get your treasure to the counter.

If the harvested switch works, then great. If not, you needed to buy one anyway.

And if it were me, I'd want an inertia switch in place just in case . . .

Welcome to TRS!

I have removed those from just about every truck I have... I'm not sure if it's the switch or the connector, or Ford using wire that was too small, but more often than not I find that the connector is melted or the wires going to it are melted... or the switch fails... or all three. Something in that little pigtail of wires builds up resistance and gets hot. I totally understand that purpose of having that safety feature but it has caused a lot of problems for me over the years.

That's not the first time I've heard that. Surprisingly mine is still doing fine (So far) even after tripping it when I wrecked. And it's running 2 pumps.

I’ve never had an issue with one.

Anyway, it’s just 2 wires. If you want it back, just buy one and wire it in. There is no relay. It’s just a switch.
