Looking for a 2.9L Mechanic in Atlanta Area


of course.....in the case of the cologne design....there are challenges.

one being the flanged exhaust ports cooking the pan rails and promoting sludge/creosote type build up promoting valve cover leaks and restricted oil returns.

Same question, did the drain holes through the block go in a straight line down to the oil pan?

Hobby is there any way to clean them without pulling the heads off and without damaging the engine? I’m assuming it’s burnt oil and varnish, there’s nothing in there that wouldn’t catch in the oil filter or would damage anything even if it’s circulated back up through the engine, it would just get chewed up. Yes/no?

Anything more specific from anybody? I suspected it might be burnt up crud near the exhaust manifold. Can I just run a brass wire brush down through there and then drain the oil?
 
I doubt that there is a " straight pathway" to drain. Find the drain holes in the heads. You can run a soft (brass) wire brush down through them. But if you hit something hard, don't force it. They drain into the valley area or other cast passages in tje block. If you take the valve covers off immediately afyer running the engune and you don't have a lot of oil pooled up that runs out, then they are probably clear. My valvetrain areas, when I got the truck were really sludged up with junk. I could lift globs of crap out with my fingers. It was very obvious.
 
@Peter_'86_2.9L_Auto & I went to the pull a part early this morning. I haven’t been in a while, and I’ve got a list, and we were notified that they had several of the first gen 1980s Rangers.

We got up real early, cause I know if you’re in the first 20 or 30 people there’s a pretty good chance you can get a golf cart and not have to wait on one. Turned out we were the first ones there, that’s never happened before. Well, we got there, and found out that they haven’t had golf carts in months and months. I’m happy to say that didn’t totally kill the day for me, I was still able to hobble around pretty good with Peter pushing all my tools in a two wheel wheelbarrow.

I kind of struck out, didn’t get to cruise around like I usually like to do, but Peter got a few tidbits, and he picked up a really nice OEM chrome bumper for the rear. When was the last time you saw one in good shape? It’s got a little bend in under the one corner, which is almost imperceptible, that I’m pretty sure we can pull out with a chain fall once we bolt it on his truck. So it wasn’t a loss for everybody.

Then we headed back to our respective houses to start working on the houses. Never ends.
Which pull a part do yall go to? I've got a 2.9 in Atlanta as well and would be interested in going to grab some parts off those trucks.
