Lewis & Clark Ford Bronco II

While we're dreaming, add a 4 cylinder diesel in there. Would be plenty for something elExolorer sized.

Cummins 4BT

Ford used the Mitsubishi 2 3l turbo diesel in 1st Gen Ranger.

If you were making a Camel Trophy Bronco II from the Ford parts bin, you could use the 2.3T diesel, manual transmission, a 1.5-inch High Rider suspenpension lift from the upcoming 1987 Ranger STX, and a 31-inch tire.

I'd bump up the boost and fuel on the 2.3T to give it a V6 torque rating.

It is already pretty close to the 2.8 rating... which is almost half of a LR :icon_rofl:

Ford still owned their ag division then, it might be better to try to raid something out of there...

The 2.2L diesel was 59 hp @ 4000 / 90 ft-lbs @ 2500

The 2.3L diesel was 86 hp @ 4200 / 134 ft-lbs @ 2000rpm

The 2.8L was 115 hp @ 4600rpm / 150 ft-lbs @ 2600rpm

The 2.9L was 140 hp @ 4600rpm / 170 ft-lbs @ 4800rpm

The 3.0L was 145 hp @ 4800rpm / 165 ft-lbs @ 3600rpm

The 4.0L was 160 hp @ 4200rpm / 220 ft-lbs @ 2400rpm

The 1985-1986 Camel Trophy used the Land Rover 90 2-door which would have been the closest in size to the Bronco II.

The Land Rover diesel made 69 hp and 117 lb-ft torque. So the 1985 2.3L diesel (86 hp / 134 ft-lbs) was more powerful.

I was looking at 1990. I also mis-remembered how much torque the 2.8 had.

Defender was 109hp @3900 and 188lb-ft at 1800rpm

Range Rover and Disco made a little more, 113hp @ 4250rpm and 195 lb-ft @ 1800rpm

It looks like a later version (300Tdi) might have actually found its way into the South American Ranger after Ford bought out Rover.

I like the 1st one. The 2nd one looks like they're standing in the engine bay. LOL

I need to stop looking at Facebook Marketplace. I just found this for $800:

Someone thinks this is worth $9500. It has 28000 on the odometer, but then says it has a rebuilt motor and with other things, it has at least 100K. But I'm thinking that finish is bedliner? It isn't a clearcoat finish.

Don't even get me started on prices. Bronco II's will never see their value go up like the early Broncos did. I've seen some good deals, and then some really insane ones. Makes me think some guy's wife told him he had to see his Bronco II, so he listed it at the 'I don't want to sell it' price. Other people are just greedy and clueless.

Covid and all the noise about the new Bronco and Bronco Sport IMO really screwed up BII pricing.

Even first gen Rangers can get crazy compared to what they once were.
