Dg I feel your fustrations whith slushboxes mines put me into a black rage(see thred) how to you destress any tips I could try?

Quick question, when you do something like this do you have to apply for a new vin or how does that work

Short story long......

It depends on the state your in....my truck has been a La. vehicle since day 1.....

I had insurance on it through a national company, but they wouldn't cover the cost of the new modifications....

I applied for full coverage thru another insurance company that specialized in modified street-legal vehicles....I got full coverage (including full replacement value) for the truck once the truck was driveable.

That's the big deal in Louisiana....our vehicles HAVE to be insured to pass the YEARLY state inspection (no current state inspection sticker on the windshield-----Oooooops----the state trooper tags & bags your vehicle until you produce insurance documents + a $50 fine).

Basically, I fitted the 1936 cab shell over the 1989 Ranger chassis/dash/steering/pedals/OEM wiring/seat belts.

My Ranger passed the physical tests/safety equipment/emissions and all the paperwork was already in the state computer for 20 years...I got the sticker with no problems!

You need to go to your state's DMV site & see what you need to do for your vehicle/mods.

Naaaaaaaaaaa!

I been tryin to remember what mod I was gonna make to the Ranger before I got side-tracked installing the A/C before summer gets above 95*....

O-O-O-O-O-O YEAAAAAA...I was gonna put the electric fan on the radiator to help out the belt driven fan.......where's that pic.......

Yep.....I know....It looks like it's stickin out a foot too much......But....that big sloped grill only lacks one inch from bolting in place.....

LOST THE PIC TO photobucket!

So.....all's I gots to do is space the radiator back 1 & 1/2"....I'll hit the hardware store in the morning & get the spacers/connect the adjustable thermostat to the fan wiring/and slap the g-r-r-r-ill back on.....

yea.....right!

I'll believe it when i see it!

OOOOOps time to take my meds....over & out.....

Hey Dg, I have been working with moving the cab around and had another quick question. How much space do you have between the bottom of the cab and the top of the top of the lower part of the fender and running board? I have seen some with about 1/4" gap and some with a 1"+. Thanks

Due to the meds....I didn't pay close attention to the gap between the bottom of the cab/fender/running boards....I've got 1/2" at the front & flush at the rear!

I should have put temporary spacers between the cab and running boards to keep the gap the same along each side of the cab as I attached the running board & support braces to the sides of the chassis!!!!!!!!

So....you could make the gap any amount that suits you......heres a pic of the support board that I arched to fit under the running board...then I attached the running board supports to the chassis (in the background)

NOTE; THE PICS ARE MISMATCHED....BUT YOU GET THE IDEA............you can see all the braces for the running board sticking out from under the chassis.

I MADE THEM LONGER THAN NECESSARY SO I COULD FIT THEM TO THE UNDERSIDEM OF THE RUNNINGBOARD......

also...the supports are bolted on/each at the height needed so the curved runningboard would fit solidly onto the braces and also it would follow the contour of the cab************

The running board is set in place.....

About 3 hours later.....the fender is bolted into place.....

This is the point that I should have shimmed the cab mounts/&/or/running board to get an even gap

I like the idea of the board under the running board. I guess you bolted it to the brackets and the running board is just sitting on top. Did you do anything else to secure the running board to the truck other than at the ends where it attaches to the fenders.

remember....I arched the board to fit the bend in the running board annnnnnnd I brushed linseed oil all over the board several times to keep it from rotting...yep it's bolted to the supports which helps hold it's shape too...I started to glue it to the running board, but couldn't....it fits down good on the board good and real tight between the 2 fenders.
