que passaaaaaa! I needed 2 more bfg rwl's....same tire dealer tells me the bfg's are in short supply and have gone fron $69 each up to $130 each....i walk out...go to pepboys...same size tire....$68 each/blackwall....i ain't proud...2 almost new bfg's get rwl remounted to the inside...2 new pepboys go on rear...if you want i can go to salvage yard/razorblade rwl's off busted tires...glue rwl's on my blackwalls...i'm thinkin.......

Sending unit is did.......again..(even though there was only 50 ohms difference between the OEM sender & the aftermarket sender, the gauge would not go down to empty--even if I was sitting on the side of the road thinking that I still had 1/8th of a tank of gas left...LOL).....

diamondplate is jacked aside.....

boards are removed.....

Rheostats are swapped between OEM sender & aftermarket sender.....the white rheostat & wire lead came off of the aftermarket sender that matched the dash gauge from Classic Instruments...it was easier to do it that way so I could keep the OEM plumbing & pump intact.....

I measured the depth of the tank & bent the float rod to make sure I had about 3 gallons left in the tank when the gauge showed Empty....

I bent the rod a little more to get 2"s clearance between the bottom of the float & the bottom of the tank after this pic was taken.....

time to cipher...... ought from ought = ought/ought X ought = double ought........1" = 1.3 gallons/2"s = 2.6 gallons

n-o-o-o-o-o-body will evvver know.....total time....one hour!

i had the same issue with my old yota lol
the tank was empty and it always had 1/4 tank on the gauge haha

as their mental image of what RSH's face actually looks like?

DG I think you might have solved my dads fuel reading problem on his truck, or helped with a solution. For somereason it read beckwards then he messed with the wiring and now a full tank is half a tank and like for some reason it will drop to full (at half tank maybe). I think we need to sweap the sending units fuel reader from his old tank to his new one, whick is the same tank as yours.

Now I have to wait for him to get home so he can read what you did.

My autometer does this, I need to fix it. I bought the gauges off some guy with an early 80's Mustang. The part on summit lists that it works with most Ford senders before '88. Thought it would be OK since my truck was built in Sept '87, but I was wrong.

yep....I even did an ohm test on the OEM Ranger sending unit & it was within 50 ohms of the aftermarket sending unit that came with my aftermarket dash fuel gauge.

I thought 50 ohms wouldn't make any difference.....BUT....it made a 1/4 tank difference....the tank was empty, but the dash gauge still showed nearly 1/4 of a tank of gas left.

After removing the OEM sending unit carefully with a dremel tool & installing the new aftermarket sending unit , the dash gauge reads accurately....I also bent the float rod so that the bottom of the float stopped 2"s above the bottom of the tank.

I have driven the truck & used the tank of gas until the gauge needle just touched the empty mark...I gassed it up & it took 13.1 gallons....which means that it still had 3 gallons left in the tank...which would get me 60 more miles after it shows empty....since it gets 21 mpg now.

I hope I explained it a little better.

thread's funny as all get out,but seriously, nice build.i'd love to cruise that thing around.
