Josh40601's Build Thread. (D-ranged)

Also, if for some reason you run into EGT problems, a common swap is a 6.0 intercooler, as it is thicker than the 7.3. While Im on the topic, if you ever have to remove your turbo for any reason, do yourself a huge favor and swap in a NON-EPBV turbo pedestal, and NON-EBPV exhaust side turbo housing. Doing those 2 mods significantly affected how the EGT's reacted in my truck. There is a VERY noticeable drop in EGT's while towing (excess of 12 000 lbs) and even unloaded the EGT's take way longer to climb under WOT.

Glad to know i was thinking on the right track. I knew that simply butt welding wouldn't be sufficient, so sleeving, plug welding, and running a bead around each end of the sleeve will be done, should i have to extend the shaft.

Thanks for the info gents!:icon_thumby:

I am studying for my GMAT exam on the 23rd, so updates to all my projects are going to be minimal for these next 2 weeks. This is also why I only worked on this and the SD yesterday. (Took the Harley out with my pops and the ladies today. Was way too pretty not to)

Next saturday I have to adapt a 6.0 trans cooler to the 7.3, which isn't too big of a deal. Updates on the SD are on it's thread.

The cooler I picked up I think is the stock 7.3, but with the aluminum sides/ports/inlet-outlet whatever things instead of the black plastic ends.

Thanks for the info on the turbo! When that time comes, I'll likely do that mod

Why is that? The 94 cab wasn't braced (that i could tell) I'm still using the 94 box if that makes any difference
when the steering shaft comes threw the firewall it does not have the support like 97 and earlyer cabs. The steering will wobble right at the firewall.
Heres what i did for mine. some say u should support from the firewall and other did it from the frame.

If u just grab the shaft that comes out of the cab/firewall u should be able too see/feel the play.

I'll definitely check it when I go to do the swap. Thanks for the info man.

Well, i did do a little to this. I too the wiring harness off the old frame and installed it on D. And took a picture of the clean frame

Spent all my freaking time working on the red one

Your u-bolts look like they need some trimming...:D

I need to put the overload spring back on. Then they look right! Lol

I miss wheeling this thing :(

Going back through the pics, this truck was the shit. I can't wait until I can really start knocking out this build.

You and me both :icon_thumby: I did manage to get more parts at the jy this weekend though. I got a complete FEAD with new altenator, ps pump, ac compressor with tensioner and rollers from a 97 5.0 ex so i can mockup the supercharger (which the 90 may not be going on the st, working on selling/swapping/upgrading the 90 for a 112)using a spare motor I have. I also got another ps hose so I can get my hydroboost finally done on SVT...

Keep on keepin on buddy!! I can't wait until you have it all done up and we can hit some trails together!

Found a 2000 exploder in louisville with only minor hail damage going across the salvage block next week. Wish I didn't have all my money tied up in the SD right now. Oh well. I'm sure there will be more.

Planning on getting the fuel tank in, and the bed on today though. Then it is on to the wiring, which I am completely lost on. Should've labeled shit :( (dumbass)

It's not that bad. Just find the steering column/interior fuse box, and start laying the harness in, it will all fall in place as there is only one connector for each circuit and won't plug into another part...

SVT

I took the entire body harness off the newer frame and engine. Only cut 1 wire (small wire to starter that needed a new end anyway)

I have it plugged into the firewall plug, just need to plug the under body one in and do just like you said, start laying it all out and plug in the stuff that's there.

Btw, you will either need to leave your 4.0 motor mounts on the frame or replace them with new ones, and when it comes time for the motor install, it will probably be easier to do it with the cab/doghouse off. Not sure how you reattached the front clip (bolt on or weld on), but with that removed it will make it much faster and easier :icon_thumby: BTW, I can send you a list of parts you will need that you can start gathering. The little Nick-nack things that can hold up a build...

I'm leaving the front like it is until after the motor goes in. I want to get the interior swapped, and the axles and suspension rebuilt before the engine goes in, so there is a lot of work to do. I also have to do a head gasket job on my C10, so money being spent are on the SD and the C10 right now. Once they are fixed, the it will be time to start spending money on this one again.
