I have been quite ill for several days and am just getting back to this and I'm confused about the doors. Why use a screwdriver to close the door latches so the truck would think they were closed instead of just leaving the doors closed?

In case you want to do something inside the truck while conducting the test. Opening or closing a door would re-activate or "wake up" the battery saver and timers and drive the current draw up for a while. Then you would need to wait for everything to go to sleep again. It wastes your time.
