Currently doing a custom ECU and wiring harness on my 1997 Ford Ranger 4.0L OHV engine. For wiring purposes I need to know if the idle air control valve is pulse width modulated (PWM) or simply a solenoid that's on or off as needed. I haven't really found much information online after searching for a few hours. If you could shed some light on this I would be so thankful!

They are pwm to get the amount of opening needed.

this style tends to work better with aftermarket controllers.

I am using a MS3X which is decidedly overkill for my project but it does support Ford PWM 2 wire IAC valves. If I do have trouble getting this to work I will definitely give this a shot next. Thanks for the input!
