My '86 ranger is in need of new exhaust and i was wondering is stock sized exhaust the best size to go with? My 2.9 has been bored .30 over, i have 31 inch tires, 3.73's, super cab, 4 inch lift, and an automatic with no overdrive. and i've been looking for a trailer to use with it. probably a 12x6. but most likely i'll just pull atv's and mowers but it's possible i might (slim chance though) pull another ranger or small car (should i buy another). I'm keeping the stock manifolds, the y pipe, and dual converters. and i may be the only person who doesn't like the flowmaster sound, so a flowmaster isn't a possibility. I'm mainly looking for something with the best overall power and fuel mileage, sound isn't a concern. Thanks for any suggestions.

Well an all new stock system would be best, as in new manifolds, y pipe, cats and exhaust. but for best performance I would say the stock size is fine but going up to 2.25" instead of 2" might help a little and if you want a nice sounding muffler that not loud but gives off a mellow tone I highly recommend a dynomax super turbo muffler. I got mine and it is quiet but still gives it a tone that sounds good IMO.

When i was pricing around for exhaust i saw advanced auto parts sells a cat back dynomax but it's $130 plus i would have to get an intermediate pipe. I would prefer something that has a good sound but i've yet to here any v6 that i would says sounds good. But dymomax is in the running, either that or just use a glasspack. thanks for the info.

i have 2.5 inch piping from the cat back into a thrush welded muffler exiting before the tire and it sounds real good when you get on it but you can barley hear it when you are just cruising
